The combination of champagne with strong alcohol is undesirable, as it leads to rapid intoxication and a severe hangover in the morning. But with the right approach, negative consequences are minimized. We will look at the important nuances of mixing and the recipe for a “New Year’s” cocktail consisting of champagne and vodka.
Theory
Even if you sip only one glass of champagne, and then drink only vodka, then intoxication will come faster. This phenomenon has two reasons. The first – getting into the warm environment of the mucous membrane, champagne foams violently, releasing carbon dioxide, which irritates the walls of the stomach and intestines, which causes increased blood flow to these organs. Due to the accelerated blood circulation, alcohol instantly spreads throughout the body and enters the brain much faster than without carbon dioxide.
The second reason is that in addition to ethyl alcohol, champagne contains a small amount of other isomeric and aromatic alcohols that are alien to the human body. First of all, the liver processes foreign alcohols, but after taking vodka (another strong alcohol), it switches to traditional ethyl, and isomeric alcohols and the aldehydes formed from them remain unprocessed, poisoning the body.
Safety measures
1. Mix only expensive champagne with strong alcohol. Cheap sparkling wines are saturated with artificial carbon dioxide, which irritates the stomach and intestines many times more than the natural gas released during fermentation. In addition, cheap champagne is made from low-quality wine material, stabilizing the drink with preservatives, adding pure ethyl alcohol (an attempt to imitate brut) and other chemical additives that, when interacting with strong alcohol, release harmful substances.
2. Do not drink soda with alcohol, including sparkling mineral water. The principle of the effect on the body is the same as in the case of champagne.
3. Before taking a sip, it is advisable to keep the champagne open for at least a couple of minutes or stir it in a glass so that a maximum of carbon dioxide comes out.
4. If during the holiday you plan to switch to another alcohol, then without tangible consequences you can drink half a glass of champagne.
5. To slow down the absorption of alcohol into the blood, it is advisable to eat champagne with fatty foods (envelops the walls of the stomach), for example, sandwiches with butter and caviar.
Each person has an individual body, there are people who mix sparkling wines with other alcohol without consequences, but they are a minority, the rest should avoid such a combination.
Vodka champagne cocktail
Suitable for those who want to quickly reach the desired condition. The drink is called “Northern Lights” or “New Year”, there are three varieties of it. The first recipe (with lemon juice) is the most gentle, the other two are best tried only by experienced “fighters”.
Classic composition:
- vodka – 50 ml;
- lemon juice – 50 ml;
- champagne (sweet or semi-sweet) – 100 ml;
- ice – 150 grams.
If you replace vodka with cognac or whiskey, you get a Brown Bear cocktail.
To reduce the intoxicating effect, it is better to hold champagne open for 20-30 minutes or salt it with fine salt.
Recipe:
1. Fill the glass with ice (you can make a cocktail without ice if you pre-cool the other ingredients).
2. Pour vodka and lemon juice.
3. Add champagne.
4. Stir gently with a spoon (a lot of foam is released) for 1-2 minutes to release maximum carbon dioxide.
5. Drink through a straw.
In a simplified version, champagne and vodka are mixed in equal proportions or 2: 1, the finished drink is drunk in one gulp.
There is another version of the cocktail – “Aurora Borealis”. A stack of alcohol is washed down with a glass of champagne. The carbon dioxide released in the stomach enters the nasopharynx, and circles appear in the eyes, as when looking at the aurora.
