Lyme disease – one of the most common tick-borne diseases

Lyme disease, also known as Lyme disease, is one of the most common diseases transmitted by ticks in Poland. More and more people talk about it as more and more cases of this bacterial disease are found. Of course, other tick-borne diseases should not be forgotten, including tick-borne encephalitis, as well as tularemia, anaplasmosis and babesiosis.

Due to the risk of infection with tick-borne diseases, prophylaxis, protection against ticks, as well as quick and correct removal of the parasite, if it is bitten, is extremely important. The ticks are repelled by preparations such as Tick Stop tick liquid, Tick Stop Sanity spray for ticks and mosquitoes or MUGGA Spray 50% DEET.

If we find a tick in the skin after a stay in nature, we can remove it in several ways, using a tick remover with a pump or a preparation for freezing and removing ticks with tweezers.

You can also buy the Sanity Forceps Kit (Repellent + Removal Tool), which is currently available at a promotional price.

Lyme disease, diagnosed too late and untreated, can cause chronic ailments and lead to dangerous neurological, joint and cardiac complications. However, if it can be found early enough, effective treatments are available. There are several characteristic symptoms that allow the disease to be diagnosed at an early stage.

The earliest symptoms of Lyme disease – how to recognize them?

Lyme disease can be a difficult disease to diagnose because it can be asymptomatic. In addition, some of the symptoms are easy to overlook or not associate their appearance with a tick bite. Therefore, it is very important during the tick season to pay special attention to our body and well-being. There is then a chance to notice one of the earliest symptoms of Lyme disease:

  1. migratory erythema – it has the form of a red or bluish red skin lesion, usually spots with a brightening in the central part, sometimes there are also alternating red and light rims; the erythema may expand and exceed 5 cm in diameter, it appears even three days after the bite, but may appear even after a month;
  2. lymphocytic lymphoma – this one painless lump of red or cyan color it occurs very rarely, usually in children, but it is worth checking if this change has occurred, because it occurs in characteristic places on the body, including the skin of the neck, auricle, on the nipple or scrotum;
  3. flu-like symptoms – usually last a few days and go away on their own; they have the form of feeling worse, accompanied by headaches, muscle and joint pain and increased temperature.

If you’ve successfully removed a tick after a bite, you can perform a Lyme PCR mail-order test by sending the tick to a lab.

When can distressing symptoms indicate Lyme disease?

If you notice any of the above symptoms or some of them, don’t panic. If you do not know if there is a tick bite, First, think about whether you have been spending time in a forest, park, meadow or any other place in nature during the last week. Examine your body closely for any unusual skin lesions, including the erythema migrans or painless lump described above. Lyme disease may also be indicated by temporary flu-like symptoms that last several days, which have disappeared on their own.

If you notice at least two of the above-mentioned symptoms (erythema, lymphocytic lymphoma, flu-like symptoms), do not underestimate the situation and contact your GP.
