According to Reuters, the results of the research were discussed last Thursday at a meeting of the health ministry’s vaccine expert panel, and were officially released on Sunday. However, a full report on this is not yet known.

Data published so far show that protection against SARS-CoV-60 infection 2 days after administration of the third dose of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine was four times greater in persons aged 10 years and older compared to two doses. In turn, the risk of serious COVID-19 disease and the need for hospitalization was even 5-6 times lower.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has reported for several weeks that immunity to COVID-19 is declining in both older and younger people following vaccination. Similar observations have recently been published in the UK and the US.

Third dose for XNUMX-year-olds and pregnant women

Israel made the decision to introduce the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to people in their 30s as early as July 40 this year. From Thursday, the third dose can also be given to younger people over XNUMX. This group also includes younger (under XNUMX) pregnant women, teachers and health workers. The third dose is given to people who received the second dose at least five months ago.

Other countries have also made a similar decision. The US intends to release a third dose vaccination against COVID-19 from September 20. Campaigns to encourage it are expected to start in Canada, France and Germany. (PAP)
