The test will tell you who needs a caesarean section

The test, developed in Sweden, is designed to save women from both futile attempts of natural childbirth and unnecessary surgical procedures, informs BBC News / Health.

Long-term delivery with a caesarean section is a nightmare for both the mother and the recipients – and of course a difficult experience for the child. It combines the disadvantages of natural childbirth and cesarean section. That is why it is so important to avoid similar situations.

A team led by British scientists from Liverpol University and Liverpool Women’s Hospital discovered that high levels of lactic acid in the amniotic fluid indicate that natural delivery is not possible. Like other muscles, a hard-working uterus produces lactic acid. When there is too much of it, it begins to inhibit contractions. Often oxytocin is given to stimulate labor, but it does not work for all women – the uterus may already be too exhausted.

Thanks to the test developed by the Swedish company Obstecare, it is possible to perform a caesarean section at the right time without tormenting the mother and her baby. However, in the case of a low level of lactic acid and an unstrained uterus, you can count on a natural childbirth.

Currently, the method is being tested in Swedish, Norwegian and Belgian hospitals (PAP)
