Why does the plug in the outlet get hot?
Have you touched the cable or plug while the water heater was running and felt it warm? This is normal if the network devices are selected according to the boiler capacity. The electrical conductor has resistance, so it heats up.
However, everything should be in moderation. If it is noticeable that the socket with the plug is overheating, it is necessary to find the cause of the problem.
Huge pressure. Storage boilers have a capacity of 1,2 to 3 kW. The load on the network is about 12 Amps. Therefore, it is forbidden to connect several devices at the same time, because then the load may exceed 30 A, a fire will occur.
The power of flow heaters starts from 6 kW and can reach 30 kW. You can’t do without wiring with a thick section. In such cases, special wiring is laid at least 4-6 mm.
The grounding of the device must be organized, and an RCD machine is also installed.
What other reasons could lead to heating:
- Using an extension cord, adapter, tee. For a powerful boiler, it is important to organize a high-quality, moisture-resistant socket with grounding. It is undesirable to use transitional means, as well as to connect several devices to one tee. No wonder it starts to get hot.
- Plug failure. In this case, only the fork will heat up. To make sure that the reason is really in it, connect the equipment to a different outlet. After 10-15 minutes, try the fork. Hot? Then you need to replace the plug or the entire part.
- Poor fork entry. The contacts have loosened, perhaps the bolts have untwisted, the connections have loosened. This happens when several devices with different plug sizes are connected to the same network. For example, for an electric kettle they are wide, and for a Termex water heater they are narrow. When you connect it, play is formed and heating occurs.
- The power outlet does not match the parameters of the equipment. It is important to select accessories in accordance with the parameters of the boiler, which are indicated in the instructions. In this case, the product does not withstand voltage, the panel melts, the plug wire.
- The socket is made in China or is old, has not changed since the days of the USSR. Then it is not surprising that it quickly loses ground: it melts and heats up.
You must thoroughly prepare for the installation of the boiler in the room. The parameters of the socket, plug, network cable, wiring are very important. They usually come with the device. Otherwise, you can not only ruin the equipment, but also cause accidents.
