The smell of cat urine: how to remove it? Video

A cat in a house is not only a joy and an opportunity to show your friends touching photos. Sometimes pets cause serious trouble for their owners, for example, by arranging a comfortable toilet for themselves on a soft sofa. Of course, the animal needs to be educated, accustoming it to the litter box, but the first step is to remove the urine from the couch.

How to get rid of the smell of cat urine

It will be much easier to cope with the smell if you remove the puddle immediately, before it has time to dry. Place a tissue or toilet paper on a damp area and press lightly to absorb as much urine as possible. Change wipes until no more urine is absorbed. It is not worth washing away the dirty place with water, because as a result, the spot area will only increase.

The litter box must be kept clean for the cat to go to the litter box.

How to get rid of the smell of cat urine

You can use home remedies to remove cat urine odor from your couch. Try washing off a fresh stain with laundry soap: it contains glycerin, which breaks down uric acid crystals. A slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate is quite effective. True, this tool is suitable only for dark upholstery: light fabric can change its color. Dissolve the crystals of potassium permanganate thoroughly before applying the solution to the upholstery of the sofa: undissolved particles will remain on the fabric.

The smell from an old stain is much more difficult to remove. To neutralize the ammonia in cat urine, rinse the stain with vinegar diluted 1: 2 with water. Pour this solution into a spray bottle, apply to the stained area and wait for it to dry. To speed up the process, you can dry the fabric with paper towels.

Then cover the stain with baking soda, which is traditionally used as a deodorizer. Dissolve a tablespoon of dish soap in 100 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide and add 100 ml of water. Fill a spray bottle with this mixture, whip it into a lather and spray the foam on the baking soda. Apply a small amount of the product first to an inconspicuous area of the upholstery of the sofa to test how the product works on the fabric. The active oxygen released during the interaction of soda and peroxide promotes the decomposition of the particles responsible for the unpleasant odor into volatile substances. The foam bubbles will trap oxygen and prolong the reaction. Leave the foam on the upholstery for a few hours, then vacuum the sofa.

Do not use products containing ammonia to clean the upholstery, such as ammonia or “Whiteness”: the cat may think that you have indicated a place for her toilet

If home remedies don’t work, use professional ones that are available at pet stores. A large assortment will allow you to choose the most suitable in terms of price and quality.
