The smell of cat urine: how to get it off the couch? Video
Undoubtedly, pets give a lot of joyful moments and positive emotions to their owners. But at the same time, they can cause a lot of trouble. For example, a cat may get into the habit of urinating on the couch, and it will not only be necessary to retrain the pet, but also to remove an unpleasant “scent”.
Getting rid of the smell of cat urine on the couch with potassium permanganate
Prepare a weak potassium permanganate solution, soak a cloth in it, and treat the part of the sofa that has been affected by the pranks of your pet. Wait until it dries, and if an unpleasant odor remains, repeat the procedure.
Removing cat urine from the couch with lemon juice
To do this, take half a lemon and squeeze the juice out of it. Then soak a sponge in lemon juice and wipe the surface of the damaged furniture with it.
Since lemon juice is an excellent oxidizing agent, there will be no trace of the feline odor after this procedure.
How to remove cat smell from the sofa with hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is great at dealing with any unpleasant odors, including feline “odors”. Mix 10-15 ml of hydrogen peroxide with 1,5-2 tsp. liquid soap (can be replaced with dishwashing detergent) and 2 tbsp. baking soda. Apply the cocktail to the spot marked by your pet and let it dry. Then rinse the stain with warm, soapy water.
Removing cat urine from the couch with a baking soda solution
To remove the smell of cat urine once and for all, mix baking soda with water until gruel forms and apply it to the affected surface. Wait until dry and then brush the area with a dry clothes brush.
Remove cat urine odor with vinegar
Use 9% table vinegar to clean furniture. Prepare the solution: to do this, mix equal parts water at room temperature with vinegar. Soak a cloth towel in the vinegar solution and use it on the damaged furniture area. Sprinkle baking soda over the stain and let it sit for 37-40 minutes. Then remove the baking soda. Mix 1-1,5 tbsp. dishwashing detergent with 100 ml of hydrogen peroxide, apply this mixture to the surface of the sofa and gently rub in with a brush, and rinse after 8-10 minutes.
Mixing hydrogen peroxide with dishwashing liquid can change the color of your sofa upholstery. Therefore, before using this product, apply a small amount to an inconspicuous area and wait 7-10 minutes
Alternatively, wash the spot marked by the cat on the couch with soapy water (use laundry soap), and then sprinkle with vinegar. After such cleaning, the cat will never even think to arrange a toilet on the couch.
Products not recommended for combating cat urine odor
Although chlorine is an effective disinfectant, it is better to refuse it in this case. Also, do not try to get rid of the urine smell on the couch using fragrances (eau de toilette, deodorants, aromatic oils, etc.), as these products only mask the smell, not remove it.
