This is a natural reaction that researchers at the Weizmann Research Institute in Rechowot, Israel, decided to look at. They published the results of their research in the journal Science Advances. How does the smell of a newborn baby affect the parents?
The scientist gathered a group of 130 people on which they conducted their experiment. Some of them received HEX molecules to smell. What are they? These are signaling molecules that are emitted by human skin, breath and feces. When it comes to infants, the highest concentration of hexadecanal molecules is found in the scalp. This is why we are talking about the characteristic smell of newborns.
What about the rest of the people who took part in the experiment? They were only the control group.
