Only 68 percent. of people in Germany are fully vaccinated, while 5 percent. of the population received a booster dose. This is a much lower percentage than the average in Western Europe.
Chancellor Merkel, ruling temporarily during negotiations to form a coalition government after September elections, said domestic efforts were needed to start mass distribution of vaccine booster vaccines.
She also called on federal and regional leaders who met on Thursday to introduce legal options that would trigger stricter local restrictions based on the number of infected people who have to go to hospital per week.
In Germany, the campaign to promote vaccination continues. Our western neighbors have enough doses for the recall campaign, in part because they have delayed plans to donate the vaccines to the COVAX facility, which distributes them to poorer countries.
