How to evaluate the joy of learning? How to estimate the work effort? How to calculate the effect of changes? Finally, what number should I describe my joy and satisfaction that together we can really change Polish science? – these words were addressed to the guests by Jerzy Starak, the originator and founder of the Polpharma Scientific Foundation, during the award ceremony for the winners of the XNUMXth edition of the competition for funding research projects.

The theme of this year’s edition was “Covid -19 – etiopathology, clinic, public health”. 22 applications were submitted to the competition. The Scientific Council, on the basis of its own review and evaluation, established a ranking list and presented it to the Foundation’s management board, which decided to award 2 grants. They were received by dr hab. n. med. Anna Wardowska from the Chair and Department of Physiopathology of the MUG and dr hab. n. med. Tomasz Skirecki from the CMKP, Department of Clinical Cytology and the Laboratory of Flow Cytometry in Warsaw. The total cost of the implementation of both projects is PLN 1.

Prof. Janina Stępińska, Chairwoman of the Foundation’s Scientific Council. Its aim is to improve the cooperation between the doctor and the patient in prophylaxis, treatment and rehabilitation through the use of IT methods and tools. The theme is: Digitization for Improving Treatment Outcomes ». The ceremony ended with a speech by a special guest, Linnar Viik, chairman of EIT Digital, member of the Digital Council at the President of Estonia, entitled “Trust me, I’m (Robot) Doctor”.

The Polpharma Scientific Foundation, in line with its mission “We Help People of Science”, supports the development of medical and pharmaceutical sciences. In the 20 editions to date, 709 research projects have been submitted to the competition. Grants were awarded to 80 teams. The value of funds donated to the statutory activities of the Foundation since 2001 has amounted to over PLN 27 million.

The role of the Foundation as an animator of research in the field of medicine and pharmacy is emphasized by online debates launched on the 20th anniversary of its existence. They are attended by eminent Polish experts working in various academic and research centers in Poland.

Despite the incredible progress in medicine, the availability of knowledge and the development of pharmacotherapy – said Agata Łapińska-Kołodzińska, President of the Foundation’s Management Board – at the Gala – we still cannot significantly improve compliance and co-responsibility in the patient treatment process – adding – According to all studies, 1/3 of patients give up treatment after just 6 weeks. Since this is the case, we have decided that compliance will be the theme of this year’s debates. In our activities, we put the health of the patient first, which is why in 2022, we place emphasis on promoting good practices of cooperation between the doctor and the patient in the treatment process.
