The second life of old houses after renovation: 47 photos
It’s amazing what an abandoned building can turn into after renovation.
Before the reconstruction, it was just a tower with a broken clock – you won’t surprise the world like that. And after a large-scale renovation, the building turned into a luxurious three-story penthouse with an unrealistic layout and stunning views. The giant clock turned into an unusual window, and there are four such windows in the apartment – on all sides of the world. High ceilings, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a truly designer interior.
The penthouse was put up for sale back in 2017. But there is still no buyer. Apparently, the point is in the price that was broken for an incredible apartment – $ 18 million. However, the sellers do not give up and hope that there will be a buyer for the penthouse.
Train station in Indianapolis
Strictly speaking, this is not the only train station where the hotel is now located. But the example is very revealing. The old station was given for reconstruction right with the trains standing inside. Now you can rent a room in one of the rooms of the station itself, and right in the carriage. There is some road romance in this, don’t you agree? Moreover, the rooms are quite comfortable. And some of them are even luxurious. True, the placement is not cheap – about 10 thousand rubles a day.
Old church
It is impossible to imagine such a thing in Russia, but in the West they are very loyal to the issue of using religious buildings for other purposes. In Brooklyn, for example, an apartment building can be found inside an old church. Looks adorable.
In the Dutch city of Maastricht, inside a former cathedral, there is a huge bookstore, one of the most beautiful in Europe. Visitors say it’s the perfect fusion of literature and architecture they’ve ever seen.
And in Spain in the old church there is … a skate park. The building looks just cosmic, painted from the inside with bright graffiti. And skaters, again, literally under the supervision of higher powers do not frolic on the street.
Cement factory
Architect Ricardo Bofilla, seeing the building of an abandoned cement plant, simply fell in love with it. Where everyone saw the shabby concrete walls, he saw real space. The redevelopment took more than a year and a half.
Of the 30 bunkers on the territory of the plant, only eight remained, but the beauty of the building began to unfold from a completely different side. Post-industrial aesthetics, surrealism and brutality – this is how the resulting house is described. Yes, exactly the house: the architect settled in one of the bunkers. Other buildings were given over to his architectural bureau.
Boston Prison
Thick gloomy walls, harsh brickwork – once upon a time there was a prison on Charles Street, and now a hotel with the symbolic name Liberty – “freedom”, flaunts.
The prison was built over 150 years ago, in 1851. The former chambers are now luxurious rooms and suites. There are 298 rooms in total. It seems that this is much less than there were once cameras. However, now this building is not intended for intimidation, but for pleasure.
Airship hangar
What is happening with the former military units and industrial buildings? They usually just fall apart. True, outsiders are not allowed close to them. And in Germany, a giant water park was made from a former airship hangar on the territory of a former Soviet military base. “Tropical Islands” – so it was called.
The complex is designed to be visited by 6 thousand people a day, and the building itself is one of the five largest in the world. Inside it, by the way, you can even fly in a hot air balloon.
