The second dose of the vaccine “swept them”. Will they sign up for the third one?
Start COVID-19 vaccine Frequently asked questions Where can I get vaccinated? Check if you can get vaccinated

In June, we spoke to young people who had fully vaccinated against COVID-19. They told about very unpleasant ailments, such as piercing pain in the whole body or a “giant hangover”. From November 2, adult Poles can sign up for the third dose. We asked the heroes of that text if they would dare to go through it again.

  1. It is not unusual or dangerous for young people to experience weakness, muscle pain or a general feeling of discomfort after vaccination. This is a sign that the preparation is working and that the immune system is reacting strongly. And that’s good news
  2. At the same time, fever, joint pain or dizziness are not pleasant sensations and we do not want to experience them voluntarily
  3. Our interlocutors can sign up for the third dose from November 2. Not everyone is convinced they will

Sylwia: “Rather, I will not sign up for the third dose right away”

Sylwia, 30, was vaccinated with Moderna. After the first dose of the preparation, she developed a typical “covid shoulder”, ie redness and soreness in the hand into which she had received the injection. After a few days, she went to the doctor who prescribed her antiallergic drug. The ailments quickly subsided. However, it was much worse after the second dose of the vaccine.

– I’ve heard from my friends that it will be worse after the second dose. In fact, more or less 12 hours after the vaccination, I started to feel bad. I took the drug and hoped it would pass. It didn’t. It started with a wave of heat and cold – I felt hot and cold at the same time. For this severe pains throughout the body. The muscles, joints, bones and head hurt – said Sylwia in an interview with Medonet.

  1. Also check: Will a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine be needed?

On day two it was only slightly better, mainly due to the painkillers. In June, Sylwia warned not to plan anything for a few days after full vaccination, because the ailments can effectively hinder the implementation of plans. Today, after a few months, is Sylwia ready for the third dose?

– Rather, I will not sign up for the third dose right away – says Sylwia. – I was vaccinated with Moderna and I read that the immunity after this vaccine remains at a good level for a long time, so I am probably safe for now. Besides, the elderly should take the third dose first. I’ll probably get the third dose even though the second one crawled over me, but I think I’ll do it in a few months. Sure, it was tough, there were side effects, but somehow I can take it again.

Our interviewee, however, is of the opinion that the unvaccinated people remain a more important issue. And there are still plenty of these in our country.

– One thing bothers me about the pressure to vaccinate with the third dose. People who are fully vaccinated are hardly convinced of this. I think most of them will go for the third dose. But it annoys me that the government is doing nothing about so many people not getting vaccinated at all! Here, in my opinion, the biggest problem is, not in vaccinating with the next dose. Let them do something about it first.

Ola: it depends on the effects after the third dose

30-year-old Ola has quite traumatic memories of the first hours after taking the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

– I was “broken”, my hand was starting to ache, I also got a low-grade fever – she told Medonet. – After one dose of paracetamol the symptoms stopped. I thought it was over. Unfortunately, 10 hours after vaccination, the symptoms returned with multiplied strength. It started with chills and a fever. After an hour he came tremendous, piercing pain all over the body. Another paracetamol dose helped, but only for an hour. Cold sweats began to pour over me, the tremors and pain in my body continued, and I started to vomit and have a headache. The symptoms did not go away for the next hours.

The next day Ola developed pain in muscles and joints. She had difficulty moving. It was only 35 hours after vaccination that she recovered. How does Ola view the third dose of the vaccine?

– I’ll wait and see what the effects are after the third dose. Only then will I decide. Because if they are like the other, I will not decide – he admits.

35-year-old Jarek felt terrible after the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

– After the first dose, I was fine, but the second dose blew me away. I felt like a giant hangover. I have never felt this way after any drug – says 35-year-old Jarek. – My older brother, who never gets sick, also felt terrible. Jarek has clearly defined views on the next dose of the preparation. Despite bad experiences, she is not going to give up on vaccination.

– I’m getting vaccinated for the third time. It is difficult, I will probably have two days off my head again, but I prefer it than unconsciously infect, for example, my parents. I would not forgive myself that I could get vaccinated and not pose any threat to them. That’s why I’m going to go for the third dose, ‘he says firmly.

Gosia will get vaccinated. “But I will be wiser for my previous experiences”

Gosia is also included in the group of 30+ and is fully vaccinated. At the second dose, she developed unpleasant symptoms that lasted for several days.

– The first symptoms after the second dose of the Moderna vaccine appeared after a few hours – reported Gosia in an interview with Medonet. – At first it was a slight pain in the arm and a feeling of breakdown. Approximately nine or ten hours later, she developed a fever, plus quite severe bone and joint pains that lasted throughout the next day and night. On the second day after the vaccination, most of the symptoms resolved, but I still felt a weakness in my body and the accompanying headache. The shoulder stopped hurting quite quickly, but for several days there was a visible redness at the vaccination site, which sometimes faded, and at times the redness was clearly visible. Eventually it disappeared about five days after vaccination.

Today Gosia says without hesitation that she will take the third dose.

“I am going to take the third dose of the vaccine despite the strong side effects I felt after the second dose. It is true that they excluded me from normal functioning for almost three days and I have very bad memories of this period, but the vaccination gave me a greater sense of security. If the third dose is to extend my immunity, I will use this option. However, I will be wiser about my previous experiences and will plan days off after vaccination so that I can safely survive any side effects.

Adverse reactions after the third dose of the vaccine. There is something to be afraid of?

All the above-mentioned reactions of the body to the COVID-19 vaccine are perfectly normal and should not discourage you from taking the next dose of the preparation. These are two or three days of unpleasant symptoms, after which the symptoms disappear and the vaccinated person can feel safe.

The studies available at the moment show that the adverse reactions after the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine do not differ from those reported after the first or second dose. Such data comes from Israel, as well as from clinical trials on the third dose of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

Symptoms for Pfizer include pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, and chills. After Moderna, pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain and joint pain may occur. When it comes to J&J, you can expect: pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain and nausea.
