Every year the government talks about the need for demographic growth. The state is trying to encourage people giving birth with material payments, low rates on loans and mortgages, but even these bonuses do not contribute to an increase in the birth rate. Bank “Otkrytie” decided to conduct a study and find out from the Russians the real reasons for the decline in demographics in the country.
More than 1 Russians aged 18 to 65, living in cities with a population of over 100, took part in the study. The respondents were asked about the presence of children and the desire to have them. Thus, 36% of women and 39% of men reported having one child, 33% of women and 27% of men reported two children, and only 5% of women and 4% of men reported having three or more children in the family.
Previously, analysts argued that Russian families generally have no more than two children. As it turned out, for many citizens, the birth of even one child is a very difficult task. This is mainly due to a lack of money, housing or the inability to find a person with whom you can build a family.
In addition to these reasons, 5% of women and 8% of men said they did not have enough free time for the birth of a child and its further upbringing. And only 4% of women and 3% of men admitted the absence of maternal and paternal instincts.
