In 1976, Francoise Dolto, the famous French pediatrician and psychoanalyst, took part in a series of radio programs on the most pressing topics that interested parents at that time. I must say, they are not too different from the current problems.
How to love a child? And what does it mean to love? How to understand yourself in your parental role? Whatever the topic was: whims and tantrums, academic performance, aggressiveness, childhood sexuality, depression, parents’ divorce, Francoise Dolto each time helped her listeners to see the situation through the eyes of a child and find a gentle way to resolve it.
These conversations on the air formed the basis of the book. Dolto’s recommendations sound very relevant: perhaps she was ahead of her time, but it is possible that the problems of children and parents have not changed in 40 years.
