The popular antibiotic has disappeared from Polish pharmacies. The producer explains

Many pharmacies across Poland lack a popular antibiotic for children and adults called Zinnat, which is used to treat bacterial infections. The manufacturer explains what is causing the shortage and when the antibiotic may be available for sale again.

Zinnat is a prescription-only antibiotic that is used in both children (over three months of age) and adults. It is prescribed to patients who have bacterial infections. Thanks to the active substance it contains, called cefuroxime, the drug helps to fight inflammation of the middle ear, urinary system, throat and sinuses. The preparation is in the form of granules, from which an oral suspension is prepared. Currently, however, the measure in this form is not available in practically all pharmacies in Poland.

When will Zinnat return to pharmacies?

According to the information provided by the website jajpolek.pl, the shortages of an antibiotic from the group of cephalosporin drugs concern the preparation in the form of granules. So you can still buy Zinnat in tablets. However, an inaccessible form of the drug was often prescribed to children who have trouble swallowing large lozenges.

Patients will soon be able to buy the medicine in an easier to swallow form. «We have received information from the manufacturer that the expected availability date of the Zinnat granules is the second half of June. The drug is temporarily unavailable due to production and distribution reasons »- informs the website jajpolek.pl.
