The poorest cities in Russia for 2018-2019

Every year, analytical centers compile ratings of the richest and poorest cities in Russia. Among the selection criteria, there are several factors that have a strong influence on the poverty rates of each particular city. These factors include the standard of living, average wages, ecology, city improvement, economic and social situation, as well as a number of other indicators. 10 Voronezh | Poverty index: 0,49

After analyzing the standard of living, the number of employed and unemployed citizens, sociologists came to the conclusion that more than 50% of families in Voronezh are low-income. Among the 35 cities in Russia that were selected for analysis, Voronezh was in the top ten. The Voronezh authorities themselves believe that the resulting index is far from reality and the region can be attributed to one of the promising ones. Among the reasons why the city got into the top 10, the main authorities consider the receipt by the population of gray salaries and incomes of unofficially employed citizens. As is known, the incomes of such categories of citizens did not participate in the sample.

9. Naberezhnye Chelny | Poverty index: 0,50

In ninth place in terms of poverty is the city of Naberezhnye Chelny with a population of 530 thousand people. During the study, residents of the city were asked to rate the state of Chelny on a scale from one to five. A score of five meant that a person could afford to buy any thing or go on a trip without attracting loans. Rating one meant that a person could not afford to buy even a minimum supply of food. Based on research, sociologists have come to the conclusion that Naberezhnye Chelny is one of the poorest and most unfavorable cities in Russia.

8. Barnaul | Poverty index: 0,50

Barnaul is located on the 8th line of the ranking of the poorest cities in Russia. Based on the results of the analysis of data on the state of life and improvement of the city, it was revealed that more than 60% of citizens belong to the poor. It is worth noting that some industries are really well developed in the city. For example, this is engineering, food industry and a number of other areas of production. Unfortunately, Barnaul cannot boast of a decent standard of living for its population. Only 10% of citizens are so wealthy that they can afford to buy real estate without using mortgage loans.

7. Lipetsk | Poverty index: 0,52

The residents of Lipetsk were also unlucky. Their city is located on the seventh line in terms of poverty among Russian cities. According to experts, more than 20% of residents are below the poverty line. Some citizens do not even have enough money to buy cheap food. And only 5% of the population can be called wealthy. In addition, it should be noted that the least developed areas in the city are medicine, utilities, and the social sphere.

6. Rostov-on-Don | Poverty index: 0,53

Rostov-on-Don is considered one of the most developed cities with a high level of industry. But, despite this, the city managed to get into the top ten poorest regions. What about in sixth place. More than half of the population belongs to the poor. And the ratio of unemployment and wages is very deplorable. In addition, the city has very bad roads and a low level of social security for citizens. Among the most unprotected layers of citizens were pensioners and people of pre-retirement age.

5. Saratov | Poverty index: 0,55

Probably everyone knows Saratov as the city with the most disgusting roads in the country. Indeed, even the city’s new roads are far from perfect. In addition, Saratov is one of the most “dirty” cities in Russia. Even in the center you can find piles of garbage. More than 60% of Saratov residents are considered poor, and 25% of citizens belong to the poor. The city also has problems with medicine, ecology and food quality. The average level of salaries in the region remains disappointing. Saratov takes not the last place in another list. The death rate in the city is too high. Which is not surprising, because health care in the city remains to be desired only the best.

4. Volgograd | Poverty index: 0,59

Another city where one of the main problems can be called the poor quality of roads, the environmental situation and wages for the majority of the population. It should be noted that the city is considered one of the most attractive tourist regions of the country, and there are also a number of largest industrial enterprises on the territory of Volgograd. At the initiative of the city authorities, social programs to help young people began to be developed and implemented, but so far they have not brought any results.

3. Penza | Poverty index: 0,60

The three poorest regions include the Volga city of Penza, located on the Sura. It is worth saying that there are a lot of large industrial firms in the city, but at the same time, residents cannot boast of high salaries. Sociologists have found that more than half of the citizens do not have enough money for food. And also many have to look for a part-time job to feed their families and themselves. In general, the city boasts good infrastructure and amenities. The city has good roads and most areas are very clean. It remains only to raise the standard of living of the population and raise the wages of ordinary workers.

2. Astrakhan | Poverty index: 0,68

One of the southernmost cities in Russia ranks second in the ranking of the poorest regions of the country. Astrakhan is famous for its sights, but, unfortunately, it cannot boast of a high standard of living for its citizens. You can come here to admire the beautiful views of the Volga and the Astrakhan Kremlin, but it is very difficult for the indigenous population to live here. The city lacks a well-established infrastructure. And this inequality led to the stratification of society. Along with expensive restaurants and hotels, as well as large offices, huts and decay coexist. More than 15% of citizens do not have enough money to buy food. The transport and communal sectors are the most affected.

1. Togliatti | Poverty index: 0,80

The most unsecured domestic city, according to the results of the analysis of sociologists, was Togliatti. More than 60% of the total population is poor and cannot live on wages. Of this amount, 13% are people living below the poverty line and representatives of the stronger sex, of working age. Most of the city’s residents suffer from employment problems. It would seem that the capital of the domestic auto industry can be so undeveloped and unattractive for life. But the thing is that the development of market competition enterprises are faced with the inability to compete with Chinese manufacturers. As a result, the entire population of Togliatti faced problems.
