The number of unvaccinated children in Poland is growing. Latest data

The number of vaccination waivers has tripled in the last five years, reports the National Institute of Public Health.

How many unvaccinated children are there in Poland?

The data presented by the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene (NIZP-PZH) shows that every year there are more people who do not undergo compulsory vaccinations.

In the last five years alone, the number of unvaccinated people has tripled.

In 2010, there were only 3437 cases of non-vaccination. In 2019, there were almost 50 such people. Doctors and experts are concerned about the upward trend because it may reduce the so-called herd resilience in our society.

The NIPH-PZH has also prepared a map showing which voivodships are the most unvaccinated.

In 2019, a record number of refusals was recorded in the Śląskie Voivodeship – amounted to 8147. There is also an alarming situation in the provinces of Wielkopolskie (6914 refusals) and Pomorskie (5768 refusals).

The lowest number of refusals was recorded in Podlaskie Voivodeship – according to the data, in 2019 there were 353 cases.

The number of unvaccinated people is increasing – what might be the consequences?

Thanks to the introduction of compulsory vaccinations, it was possible to eliminate some infectious diseases that were once common, such as smallpox or Heine-Medin disease. Children who have not been vaccinated have a high risk of developing, for example, measles or whooping cough. In their case, the course of the disease may be more severe and lead to serious complications.

What is important, compulsory vaccinations influenced the development of herd immunity. Why is it so important? The more people vaccinated, the greater the protection for those who cannot be vaccinated due to various contraindications. This applies, for example, to infants or patients with chronic diseases, where herd immunity is the protection.

Vaccination is considered one of the greatest achievements of medicine for a reason. Experts say that not only do they save lives, but also prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases.
