The number of coronavirus infections is falling, the worst period is already behind us – Prof. Ernest Kuchar from the Medical University of Warsaw, referring to the data published by the Ministry of Health.
- «The number of coronavirus infections is decreasing. We have 1 infections less than a week ago. And this is optimistic information »- said prof. Cook
- The persistent number of deaths is a cause for concern, he added. «In Poland, an average of 10 percent die. patients with COVID-19 treated in hospitals »- said the expert
- According to the expert, it is important to maintain the current vaccination rate
- – Children should be vaccinated to protect them against COVID-19, but also to prevent the transmission of the virus in the local community – explained Prof. Cook

The Ministry of Health reported 2 new cases of coronavirus infection and death of 086 COVID-250 patients. Last Thursday there were 19 infections and 3 deaths.
«The number of coronavirus infections is decreasing. We have 1 infections less than a week ago. And this is optimistic information. What is still worrying is the large number of deaths »- said prof. Cook.
He recalled that the number of new infections reflects the current situation, while the number of deaths is the result of what happened a few weeks ago, when there were many more infections. «In Poland, an average of 10 percent die. COVID-19 patients treated in hospitals. Mainly seriously ill patients die, with comorbidities requiring connection to ventilators »- he said.
According to prof. Kuchara, “it is important that we have less and less occupied covid beds in hospitals”. He added that “their number has decreased compared to the data presented by the Ministry of Health last Thursday by nearly 4, which proves that the worst period is already behind us”.
Prof. Kuchar pointed out how important it is to maintain the current vaccination rate. He referred to the approval of young people from the age of 12 for vaccination with the Pfizer preparation, announced by the Ministry of Health in June.
This is the next age group to be approved for vaccination in Europe. For now, the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine is approved for use in people over the age of 16. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) will evaluate the application for approval of this preparation for children 12 years and older.
«The greater the percentage of the population that is vaccinated, the better, because with every person vaccinated, there is less than one person who is potentially infected. The more such people there are, the sooner we will obtain population protection, which will allow us to permanently control the pandemic ”- he said.
He added that “children should be vaccinated to prevent them from contracting COVID-19, but also to prevent transmission of the virus in the local community”. “I am only afraid that on this occasion the vaccination of people from the highest risk groups would not be neglected, because fortunately children do not belong to this group” – he emphasized. He pointed out that «in Poland we have approx. 60 percent. vaccinated seniors, and in the event of covid disease, the mortality rate in this group will be the highest ». “Children of COVID-19 go through easier, on average one in a thousand goes to the hospital, and among adults one in five” – emphasized the expert.
Professor Kuchar also referred to the issue of the so-called covid passports. «Covid passports evoke great emotions, and such solutions have been in use for years, such as yellow books confirming vaccination against yellow fever, required when crossing the border of some countries. Nobody questioned this idea, »he said. He added that “passports would be a good form of incentive to vaccinate”.
