The draft law related to combating the COVID-19 disease provides for the suspension of the update of the reimbursement list. This means that new drugs will not be reimbursed for the next six months. The March list is to apply.
Bill in the Sejm. What about the reimbursement list?
In the bulletin of the Government Legislation Center, a draft act was published on the amendment of certain acts in the field of the health care system related to the prevention, prevention and combating of COVID-19. In this draft it was proposed significant changes to the reimbursement list, the update of which – so far published every two months – is to be temporarily suspended. The Ministry of Health will not prepare the next amendment until September.
- March list of reimbursed drugs. Who will benefit and who will lose?
All reimbursement decisions from the last list will be extended to August 31st. New medicinal products, even if they have already received a positive decision, will only be able to appear on the September list. So, for the next six months, the reimbursement in Poland will not receive any additional drugs – neither innovative nor generic, the prices will not change, nor will the groups of patients who can benefit from reimbursement of a given drug be extended.
Reimbursement list and drug programs
As “Polityka Zdrowotna” writes, patients using drug programs will wait even longer for new therapies, because the changes that will appear on the September list must be introduced into the regulations of the National Health Fund and contracted with hospitals. In practice, the waiting time for drug programs will be nine months.
Pursuant to the provisions of the draft act, the minister of health will still be able to make decisions on the reimbursement list, but these decisions will come into force no earlier than September 1.
