At the press conference, Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski presented the assumptions regarding the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He mentioned, among other things, that at this particular time we should remember about the DDM. What does this abbreviation mean?

DDM or Disinfection, Distance, Masks

The new health minister recalled that the most important thing in the fight against the pandemic is to preserve the DDM. After a while, he developed this acronym as Disinfection, Distance, Masks. Following these three recommendations is to help us reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Disinfection of hands and surfaces

Disinfecting hands and surfaces is an important part of the fight against virus transmission. Frequent hand washing and disinfecting them, e.g. before entering a store or school, helps to get rid of not only SARS-CoV-2 virus particles, but also other microorganisms that we carry on our hands.

Regular disinfection of the surfaces we use most often also reduces the risk of transmission of infection.

Distance from other people and a mask

Maintaining a distance of at least 1,5 meters from others allows to significantly reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. In the recommendations prepared by the Ministry of Health, we read about keeping one’s distance, e.g. in a cinema hall, theater, public transport or even while walking.

If you can’t keep your distance, then it’s a good idea to have a mouth and nose guard with you. Masks help reduce the transmission of coronavirus. You just have to remember that they should be put on correctly. Exposing your nose or wearing masks on your chin or in your hand does not help, and may even be harmful.

Compliance with the DDM principle proposed by Minister Niedzielski is the most effective way to minimize the risk of infection not only with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, but also with the influenza virus and other microorganisms that will “circulate in the air” in the fall and winter season.
