Either we are getting old, or the truth is something is wrong with these masterpieces of animation. You look at some cartoons and think: what did their creators smoke? Remember at least the same Teletubbies. Fortunately, you won’t see them on the blue screen. But a holy place, as you know, is never empty. There are enough mischiefs even without Tinky-Winky.
Let’s make a reservation right away: in a global sense, there is little benefit from any cartoons. Rather, they benefit the parents, who at this time can calmly go about their business. But, since such entertainment has a place to be, you still want the picture on the screen to at least not irritate and harm. Better yet, it was useful. The editorial staff of WDay asked the parents and found out what they think about modern cartoons and which of them they are trying to protect their children from.
The girl went into the forest and got lost. I got into the bear’s hut. Then everyone knows the tale: “Don’t sit on a tree stump, don’t eat a pie”, “I sit high, I look far away.” Do you remember? Forget it. The series of the same name has nothing to do with the work of Russian folk storytellers, except for the main characters themselves. Moreover, the young mischievous Masha, who in the cartoon is mostly a hooligan, was called by her parents the most harmful character from modern animation.
Olga, mother of three-year-old Sveta:
– My daughter loves Masha very much, but I try to include this cartoon for her less often. After him, the child begins to literally go crazy, imitating his beloved heroine.
By the way, psychologists also agree with mothers, who call Masha a classic example of a hyperactive child. But in fairness, we note that in the new episodes the girl seemed to have matured a little and she no longer has such shocking pranks. And it became more boring to look at her.
Who lives at the bottom of the ocean? Spongebob is the hero of the American cartoon. Judging by the number of products with the portrait of this square freak, he has firmly taken his niche in the industry. But many adults admit: they try to protect their children from this character.
Elena, mother of six-year-old Kirill:
– I watched several episodes with my son and was horrified: primitive jokes, some of them are even dangerous. A very aggressive rough cartoon.
In the scientific literature, by the way, an experiment is described that was carried out in the United States. Preschoolers were shown several episodes of different cartoons, and then tested for concentration, aggressiveness, hyperactivity. Guess after watching which cartoon the children showed the worst results.
Recently, most film studios have been making films that would be equally interesting for both children and adults. The idea is great: kids laugh from the plot, parents – from interspersed adult humor. But the synthesis is not always successful. And the cutest ogre for children is not at all as cute as it seems to us. And children under seven or eight years old should not show this cartoon. And there are also frankly sadistic moments.
Sergey, father of five-year-old Christina:
– When we watched this cartoon with my wife, they laughed out loud. I decided to show it to my daughter. At the moment when the bird bursts from the singing of the main character, he literally covered the child’s eyes with his hands. We did not finish the murder of the nightingale.
Still, it is worth showing such tapes to children when they are ripe for understanding such humor. Or then heal their psyche.
After the release of this American series, the shelves of children’s stores in the girls’ departments began to resemble the windows of a funeral service bureau. Coffins-beds, skulls with bows and other attributes of young monsters have firmly taken their place in the minds and hearts of girls. Many mothers say, at first they were horrified, but then they looked closely and realized: in fact, the cartoon is kind. But it’s hard to say why this kindness should be conveyed through the images of zombies and vampires.
Ekaterina, mother of 11-year-old Julia:
– My daughter is literally crazy about monsters. Basically, like all the girls in her class. For me, this is necrophilia in its purest form. I try to buy her everything related to this cartoon as little as possible, waiting for the fashion for them to end.
By the way, two years ago the State Duma tried to ban the sale of toys in Russia based on this cartoon.
PS In turn, the parents named the most useful, in their opinion, cartoons:
– “Fixies”,
– “Luntik”,
– “Smeshariki. Pin”,
“Bambi,”
– “Dora the explorer”,
– “Peppa Pig”.
However, modern psychologists have their own point of view on the usefulness of cartoons. And, perhaps, it will seem quite interesting to you. WDay editors talked with Lydia Kvasova, who expressed her opinion on this matter.
Perinatal and Reproductive Psychologist
“The cartoon is not so scary as it is painted” – perhaps I’ll start with this, a little paraphrased, a famous quote. First, let’s figure out who needs cartoons and why. At different ages of children, their function will be completely different.
Modern parents begin to show their children cartoons almost from the cradle. This is often motivated by some developmental effect. In fact, there is no developmental effect from cartoons for a young child. But at the same time, demonizing cartoons is also not worth it. In all honesty, we admit to ourselves that parents need them more than children. Distraction, free time for at least 5 minutes … The main thing here is not to overdo it. And if we honestly understand that we need the cartoon, and not the child, then we select the cartoons ourselves. Why is “Masha and the Bear” bad for a small child? Everything happens very quickly there, the frames change at lightning speed, the child is really overexcited. At the same time, an older child can already calmly laugh at Masha together with adults without any overexcitation.
In preschool and primary school age, when a child enters children’s groups, cartoons can perform a slightly different function. Children communicate, discuss what they are watching, play heroes. Listed in the survey cartoons “SpongeBob Squarepants”, “Monster High” and “Shrek” are currently not hits among children. Moreover, at this age, parents are also able to influence the choice of cartoons and their number. Therefore, what we consider negative, we can simply not show.
It is very great if a trusting relationship is formed with the child. The modern industry of cartoons, cinema and online games is very wide. And in the case of a trusting relationship, we can discuss this with an older child and choose together what to watch and what not.
And, of course, do not forget that the basic values are laid in the family, and not with the help of cartoons or something else. And if we, as parents, contribute to this, then any, even the most unpleasant cartoon, is unlikely to cause global harm to our child.
