Monesterio is known as the city of Ham and this gastronomic event will undoubtedly expand its excellent culinary offer.
Once again the lands of Extremadura return to the first page of the gastronomic scene with the second edition of the Dehesa Gastronomic Week, which will take place in the municipality of Monesterio throughout these days.
From next December 9 to 13, a series of activities will be carried out around local gastronomy, which once again highlight the excellent culinary elaboration of the province of Badajoz.
The year was inaugurated with the Spanish capital of gastronomy of neighboring Cáceres and a few months later Romana Mérida, took over and took pride in representing the Ibero-American capital of gastronomy, marking a milestone in the gastronomic representation of the CCAA that it brought together the most important distinctions of food culture.
Within the program of activities that from the local consistory of Monesterio, will be carried out in the Gastronomic week, we highlight the contests and workshops that may be enjoyed by the visitor in these days prior to the Christmas celebrations.
Equally interesting are the different talks and seminars that will take place during the days, highlighting the reference to “The Gastronomy of the Dehesa “, which will be held in the House of Culture of the City Council and will be commanded by the local councilor and will have the presence of different personalities of Culture and national gastronomy such as Matías Macías Amado, Antonio Gázquez Ortiz, Juan Pedro Plaza Carabantes, Manuel Gil Felipe and Antonio Parra Atienza.
The Gastronomic Route of the Dehesa
This unique Tapas contest is framed within the different actions that the Dehesa Gastronomic Week proposes in this second edition of the event.
There will be a dozen hospitality establishments that present their culinary creations in Tapas format, to ensure the richness of the raw material of Extremadura, from the “Pasture to table”.
There will be no lack of fetish products from the countryside such as Iberian pork, from head to legs, that is, from the cheeks to the ham.
The participating restaurants and bars present their elaborations to us and we leave them here linked on the website of the city council of monesterio, where the fried pig will compete with sirloins, toasts etc …
The rest of the activities of the Dehesa Gastronomic Week
The kitchen and the product are the kings of the celebrations and in this case the other calls that complete the program of activities of the Week will be:
El Cooking Workshop for Students, which will be held at the Hospitality School of Monesterio, and will be taught by the monitor of the Hospitality School of Monesterio, Juan Luis Rodríguez Vaca and the Chef Leo Carvajal Ortiz.
El Dehesa Cooking Contest, aimed at professionals and students of the Hospitality Schools, will enter the world of the field with the masterful elaborations of its participants, having to make a dish with the king of the meadows, the Iberian Ham.
La Craft Beer Tasting, sponsored by Cerex Beer, will take us into the fermented universe that is gaining more and more followers in our country, and that will surely not disappoint anyone with the excellent products that they develop in their factory with cherries, chestnuts or acorns …
As a culmination, the highly anticipated Ham Tasting will take place, which will be led by Dr. Jesús Ventanas, Professor of Food Technology at the UEX, where he will try to reel off the qualities of Iberian ham through the senses.
