The most fashionable eyebrows: 10 trends from the beginning of the XNUMXth century to the present day
It turns out that the shape of the eyebrows has changed quite often in the last century. Now it’s safe to say that we are back in the 80s.
Fashion is a finicky lady with an extremely changeable mood. Seven Fridays a week they talk about such. And not a month goes by, as women of fashion, trying to keep up with the trends, all change and change the design of the eyebrows. Multi-colored eyebrows, eyebrows, feathers or “fish tails”; they make pigtails from the eyebrows and even glue precious stones on them. We decided to remember how the fashion for eyebrows changed from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day.
The beauties of the 1920s had to shave off their eyebrows and instead draw the thinnest “strings” with a pencil. One of the brightest representatives of this trend is Clara Bow, an American actress, silent movie star, sex symbol and the first official It girl in history.
Super thin eyebrows were the pride of another beauty of that time – Marlene Dmitrikh.
1930s: more theatricality
In the 30s, dramatic eyebrows replaced the drawn eyebrows. Women of fashion made them theatrically curved. Because of this, the impression was created that the girls were constantly surprised by something. The trendsetter of this fashion, Swedish and American actress, Oscar winner Greta Garbo is the standard of beauty of that time.
1940s: the struggle for naturalness
In the 1940s, the beauties abruptly changed their priorities – naturalness replaced the excessive theatricality. Most fashionistas of that time wore wide and bushy eyebrows in a natural shape. Frida Kahlo, a well-known lover of the “natural” trend, is a Mexican artist best known for her self-portraits.
However, now the beauties slightly gave their native shape a gloss by plucking out excess hairs and drew a sharp tip with a pencil. It looked completely unnatural, but it was considered very beautiful. A striking example is the eyebrows of the American actress, owner of the Oscars, and since 1956 – the wife of Prince Rainier III of Monaco, 10th Princess of Monaco Grace Kelly. The tips of her eyebrows reached her temples.
Another lover of curled brow shape is Katharine Hepburn.
Fashionistas wore eyebrows in the shape of pointed arches, which looked pretty sexy. One of the trendsetters was the legendary Marilyn Monroe, an American film actress, sex symbol of the 50s, singer and model. Thanks to this shape of the eyebrows, the face looked more sculpted. The hairs were pulled up a little to make the image look more playful.
Also, at that time, the eyebrows could be quite wide and bright, for example, like that of Audrey Hepburn, a British actress, fashion model, dancer and humanitarian activist.
In the 60s, fashionistas made the tips of their eyebrows stick out slightly upward, due to this, the look became impudent and predatory. And they were also carefully drawn with a pencil for greater showiness. One of the trendsetters is the legendary Sophia Loren, an Italian actress and singer, winner of honorary awards at film festivals – Cannes, Venice, Moscow, Berlin.
In the 1970s, eyebrows in the shape of thin, curved friend were at the forefront of fashion, as a reference to the fashion of the 1920s. They were complemented with bright eyeshadow. A striking example is Alisa Freindlich in the series “Office Romance”, Soviet and Russian theater and film actress, singer, People’s Artist of the USSR.
Naturalness was also beginning to come into vogue. One of the legislators Kim Basinger is an American actress, model and singer, owner of the Oscars and Golden Globes.
The beauties from the 80s did not spend much time on their eyebrows, preferring naturalness. Although super-wide eyebrows were considered special chic, the main emphasis was on naturalness. A pioneer among fashionistas – Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer, as well as an actress and children’s writer.
In pursuit of fashion, beauties from the 1990s plucked their eyebrows very thinly – almost to zero. Instead of a smooth bend, it was supposed to make a sharp corner. For most girls, this shape made the face aggressive and visually reduced the eyes. A striking example is Angelina Jolie – American actress, film director and screenwriter, fashion model, UN Goodwill Ambassador.
2000s – 2010s: naturalness is in fashion
In the early 2000s, natural eyebrows returned to fashion, however, for the next 10 years, many beauties plucked them into a thin thread by inertia. For another decade, fashionistas who came to their senses were looking for ways to grow orderly plucked eyebrows.
There is no clear benchmark or standard in eyebrow fashion today. Their shape is selected individually for each person. The only rule is maximum naturalness with mandatory grooming. Instagram dictates its fashion for eyebrows, although they are not at all wearable and are only relevant for photographs.
