Why buy expensive whiskey?

Whiskey connoisseurs are especially interested in expensive varieties. At various auctions and competitions, this category is among the most popular. In addition, whiskey is considered as an investment object, because the prices for some types have only been growing since the moment of sale. Top Shakedown presents brands in order from the cheapest to the most expensive.

Macallan 1964 ($4000)

It got into bottles in the 1980s, although it was distilled in 1964. It was brewed in Spanish sherry casks. The aroma reveals flowers and spices. In addition, it contains Speyside sweet malt. Entered the Special Selection series, so it is so rare and expensive.

Chivas Regal Royal Salute, 50 лет ($ 10000)

It was bottled in 1953. The issue was dedicated to the day of the coronation of the English Queen Elizabeth II. The implementation was completed exactly fifty years later. Today there are 250 bottles in the world, each valued at ten thousand dollars. Pricing was influenced not only by elite alcohol inside, but also by the design of bottle glass made of gold and silver.

Macallan 1939, 40 years old ($10125)

Glenfarclas 1955, 50 years old ($10878)

The oldest scotch tape in the world is stored in the warehouses of the Glenfarclas company, and the 1955 variety is also recognized as one of the most expensive. The taste combines sweetness and spice. Alcohols were distilled for half a century and in 2005, finally, they were bottled. This event was timed to coincide with the bicentennial of John Grant, the owner of the farm, on the basis of which the production of Glenfarclas began.

Dalmore, 50 years old ($11000)

A single malt whiskey from the Highlands, Scotland. It was released in 1978 in a limited edition of sixty pieces. Today it is considered one of the best in the category of half a century of aging, and all thanks to the barrels in which Italian sherry was stored before it.

Royal Brackla 1924, 60 лет (12000$)

It could never be bought by the average consumer. The series appeared in 1984, and seven years later, when the manufacturer’s distillery was reopened, all the bottles were delivered to the event. Only employees managed to try the drink, and now it is considered a vintage and extremely rare whisky.

Macallan Lalique Crystal Decanter, 50 лет (12500$)

This drink was a little more fortunate. The sales volume in 2008 amounted to 420 units. Now they are all kept by private collectors. Each of them is numbered, made in the form of a perfume bottle, which was invented by the French jeweler R. Lallique at the beginning of the twentieth century. Whiskey soft, has a citrus character and aroma with smoky notes.

Mortlach 1938 (16000$)

Scotch whiskey rich brick color. It got into oak barrels in 1938, and into bottles already in 2010. It was waiting in the wings at the manufacturer’s warehouses in Speyside. Exists in 54 copies, so it is purchased in the collection.

Highland Park, 50 years old ($17000)

The bottle has a unique design: stripes shimmering with silver are woven into the number fifty. The drink was stored in five different barrels, it was distilled in the middle of the twentieth century. The collection includes 275 pieces, which are distinguished by the aromas of mahogany and spice.

Glenfiddich, 50 years old ($22000)

Once a decade, 50 bottles were produced, in total the line has five hundred. They are finished with silver and an engraved medallion seal. In addition, each is sold in a handmade leather case.

Dalmore 62, 70 years old ($58000)

1942 was marked by the release of twelve bottles of this scotch. It was created from four spirits ranging from 1869 to 1939. In the mid-2000s, a bottle was bought for $58. It happened in one of the hotels in Surrey, England.

Glenfiddich 1937, 64 years old ($71000)

It was bottled in the year that King George VI ascended the throne. Now it is recognized as one of the best old whiskeys. During aging, it acquired a rich complex taste of burnt heather, molasses, cedar, oak and dark chocolate. In 2012, a copy went under the hammer for $71. The price of it every year only grows.

Macallan 1926, 60 years old ($75000)

It has been bottled twice in history. First in 1986, then in 2002. Borgata Hotel & Spa, Atlantic City, New Jersey, bought out a significant part of the collection. The bottle cost the hotel $75, and a sip for a visitor will now cost $000. In addition, in 3 one copy went to a private South Korean collection.

Dalmore 64 Trinity (160000$)

In nature, it existed only three pieces. It contains several spirits, some of which have been distilled for 140 years or more. One whiskey remained in the UK, the remaining two went to America, in the hands of a private collector.

The Macallan in Lalique, 64 years old ($460000)

In 2010, an auction was held in New York, from which the whiskey went for $460. Packaging also influenced pricing: the drink is stored in a crystal decanter, made in a single copy. The notorious company Lalique was engaged in the design. The auction was dedicated to the 000th anniversary of the birth of the famous jeweler L. Latik. Thus, the drink became a symbol of respect for his work.
