The most effective hair restoration procedures

Hair restoration procedures are offered in almost every salon, the masters are ready to solve any problem – you just have to spend a few hours in the hairdresser’s chair and the strands will be as good as new. To what extent do these promises correspond to reality?

Advantages of modern hair restoration procedures

Of course, it’s great that today a woman can look like she is drawn in her dreams: dye her hair from blonde to brunette (or vice versa), turn lush curls into smooth silks, and turn straight hair into a mane full of unruly curls. However, all these extreme metamorphoses are not in vain for the hair.

The harder we try to change their nature, the more we damage. As a result, the strands become porous, dry, brittle and lifeless, thinned. We have to save them.

It is not surprising that against this background, salon procedures for hair restoration are rapidly gaining popularity. The range of services offered is quite extensive and most likely will continue to grow. How to understand how one procedure differs from another, despite the fact that they all promise to restore the hair structure?

Hair procedures, which are positioned by salons as restorative, can be divided into two large groups.

  1. Deep hair restoration – the active components of masks or serums penetrate deep into the cortex, repairing damaged areas. Thus, the integrity of the hair structure is restored, and it becomes not only smooth and shiny, but also more full, dense, elastic. Such procedures have a complex effect and have a cumulative effect, and a course is required for a sustainable result.

  2. Express hair restoration in the salon is a superficial procedure, they give an excellent aesthetic effect by creating a smooth coating on the surface of the hair and closing the cuticle, so after such procedures the strands look literally brilliant. However, in fact, there is no restoration of the structure and “recovery” of the hair, so the result is short-lived and not cumulative, but it is instant and very expressive.

What procedures are considered the most effective for hair restoration? We are studying.

Hair restoration in the salon: popular procedures

We talk about various professional ways to revive the affected hair, so that it is easier for you to decide which procedure is best done to restore hair in the salon.

Botox – intensive hair restoration

Refers to the very procedures that really have a restorative effect on the hair due to products with keratin and amino acids. Botox is hot (when the beneficial substances are sealed with a hot iron) and cold. The last option is more gentle on the hair cuticle. Suitable for thin, frizzy and split ends hair. Not suitable for naturally thin, liquid hair, as it can “kill” the volume and the hairstyle will not keep its shape. The primary result lasts up to one and a half months, a course is required, and the procedure is not cheap.

Keratinization – restoration of the hair structure

The main “actor” of the procedure is keratin, or rather hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, which are applied as part of a concentrate and mask to the hair to reconstruct the damaged shaft. As a result, they become obedient, dense, “alive”. Keratinization is suitable for completely damaged hair as a result of bleaching, perm, straightening, thermal exposure. The effect lasts a month, a course is required for a sustainable result.

You should not do the procedure for no reason – if the hair is not too damaged and there is enough of its own keratin in it, and the cuticle is dense, then saturation with excess proteins can lead to brittleness and stiffness of the hair.

Please note that this procedure is not related to keratin straightening (which is, perhaps, the direct opposite of restoration and changes the natural structure of the hair).

Cauterization – deep hair restoration

A relatively new way of salon hair restoration, which consists in alternately applying a serum with an extract from bamboo and a product with proteins. The procedure has a complex effect – moisturizes and improves the structure of the hair. There are hot and cold options.

The full course consists of 3-4 sessions, first they need to be done every two weeks, and then maintained every 3-4 weeks. This is expensive, but the procedure can be carried out independently if you purchase a home kit. During the course, you can not expose your hair to coloring, which can be a serious limitation for those who cannot afford to miss a monthly visit to the colorist.

Lamination and shielding – express hair restoration

Both of these procedures give a wonderful aesthetic effect of shiny, smooth hair, but they do not work “from the inside”, but from the outside.

  • Shielding creates a kind of protective shiny screen on the surface of the hair due to the alternate application of preparations with amino acids, proteins, oils, silicones that do not penetrate inside. Therefore, the result does not last very long – literally until the next hair wash. The advantage of this procedure is that it is not difficult to perform and you can do it yourself. Who should not resort to shielding is the owners of oily hair, as you can get the effect of a dirty head and greasy strands.

  • Lamination, as the name implies, literally seals each hair in a film, which primarily gives shine and smoothness, and also protects. The effect lasts up to one and a half months. It should be borne in mind that the actual hair restoration does not occur, the effect is purely visual. Therefore, the expert creator of Garnier Evgeny Sedoy recommends taking a course of moisturizing nourishing procedures before the lamination procedure.

Mesotherapy – the choice for thinning and hair loss

Mesotherapy for hair is not a salon, but a trichological procedure, which is carried out exclusively in a clinic. We at Healthy-Food believe this is the most effective way to combat hair loss and thinning hair. But this therapy has nothing to do with the restoration of hair damaged by dyeing or perm. The impact is on the scalp and hair roots with the help of injections of drugs with biologically active substances to stimulate growth and strengthen hair.

Hot wrap – revitalizing hair treatment

This treatment is called hot because the hair restoration work is carried out under the influence of heat, it helps the active ingredients to penetrate deep into the hair. Most often, in a hot wrap, the main roles are assigned to oils or silk proteins: a warm mixture is applied to freshly washed strands, wrapped in a towel (also warm) and left for 30 minutes to an hour. Finally, a head massage.

This is a pleasant and effective spa treatment that uses natural ingredients and a gentle, comfortable thermal effect, without the use of an iron.

Collagen hair restoration – care for damaged hair

Hair restoration occurs due to intensive hydration and improvement of the hair structure. It is this effect that collagen protein (or its analogues) provides. If the hair is thin, dull, unruly, reduced in diameter (including due to age-related changes), then collagen restoration may be the best solution. The product with collagen will fill the voids in the hair, thicken them, restore elasticity and shine to the strands. This gentle, non-aggressive treatment has a cumulative effect.

Evgeny Sedoy, an expert creator of Garnier, recommends: “If you want to provide your hair with intensive care and restoration at the same time, then you should combine a hot wrap with collagen care.”

Hair restoration at home

Probably, every girl from time to time has a desire to conduct a deep hair restoration session on her own at home. Moreover, in our time, you can purchase any professional line, along with instructions and a description of the application technique. But alas, not all salon techniques can be repeated at home, even with the right tools and tools.

It is inconvenient to perform various manipulations on your own head, plus there are many nuances that can only be learned with experience. However, there are some things you can do on your own. For example, oil wrap.

For the procedure, coconut or olive oil is suitable, you can mix them in equal proportions, the main thing is that these are cold-pressed oils. Our judge Maria Nevskaya recommends the following protocol:

  1. Heat up the oil in a water bath.

  2. Apply warm oil along the entire length of the hair.

  3. Put on a shower cap, then wrap in a towel.

  4. Keep one to two hours.

  5. Wash off with warm water.

Oil wrap is recommended to be done regularly – 1-2 times a week.

If you choose the right products and apply them regularly, your hair, even if it has been exposed to aggressive influences, will look and feel much better.

Summary results

What are hair restoration treatments?

Restorative treatments – intensive professional care aimed at the reconstruction of damaged hair with the help of structural components (keratin, amino acids, proteins) with subsequent sealing of the cuticle. Considering that almost all procedures promise a total recovery, getting to the bottom of the truth and choosing the right procedure is not an easy task.

What are the best hair restoration treatments?

It all depends on the individual characteristics of the hair and how badly they are damaged. But in general, the methods aimed at deeply saturating the hair with structural components in combination with thermal exposure have the most powerful effect: hair botox, collagen and keratin recovery (not to be confused with keratin straightening), cautery. Shielding and lamination give only a visual effect.

What hair restoration procedures can be used at home?

Among the professional procedures, there are quite simple ones, you can try to repeat them at home by purchasing the appropriate tools – masks, serums. But the problem is that, without having the skills and technical equipment, it is difficult, and sometimes completely impossible, to carry out the procedure on your own head as an experienced master would do in the salon. Therefore, the best solution is to use home care products (see our review) or make an effective mask with oils for hair restoration.
