The Ministry of Health does not know how to vaccinate properly?
On April 24, the Ministry of Health published a spot “Hand in hand to fight the coronavirus” encouraging vaccination. In a one-minute video we hear a voiceover explaining why vaccinations are so important.
“Coronavirus changed our reality for a long time, deprived us of the possibility of normal functioning, limited freedom and made life difficult, it separated us from those we love, painfully and sometimes irretrievably” – we hear in the material.
The video shows the moment of vaccination several times. The problem is, the needle goes too low, below the deltoid muscle.
The spot and the errors it contained did not go unnoticed by Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski. The immunologist commented on the matter on Twitter.
«In the attached shoulder-to-shoulder vaccination spot, the injection of the vaccine beyond the deltoid muscle, which is the recommended site for vaccination, is shown 6 times. Is this a promotion of the correct vaccination procedure? » – wrote an expert of the Supreme Medical Council for combating COVID-19.
Vaccinations against COVID-19. Where should you vaccinate?
What should the correct vaccination look like? In January, when the National Vaccination Program lasted several days, the information was published on its website by the Polish Society of Vaccinology.
- Vaccinations against COVID-19. This is what vaccination looks like – step by step. The doctor explains
«COVID-19 vaccines are products for intramuscular administration. They should not be administered by any other route (e.g. subcutaneous, intravenous or intradermal). In adults, injections are usually made into the deltoid muscle (on the non-dominant side, most often the left one, which reduces the risk of turning off the dominant upper limb in the event of a post-vaccination reaction that interferes with normal activity).
In the case of low muscle mass in this area or lesions that make injection difficult or impossible in this area, it is possible to vaccinate in the anterolateral area of the thigh »we read.
The vaccination shown in the MZ spot was therefore inconsistent with the guidelines. This was confirmed by Dr. Ernest Kuchar in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
– Definitely bad. Too low. Vaccinate should be two centimeters below the shoulder process. It must be the deltoid muscle – said Dr. n. med. Ernest Kuchar from the Polish Society of Vaccinology.
- How to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccination? There are four ways [EXPLAINED]
– What is the risk of vaccination below? Local reactions occur much more often, instead of “going” into the muscle, it hits other tissues. Immunity after such vaccination is also weaker. People who have little experience in the field of vaccinations may, unfortunately, be suggested by such material – explained Dr. Ernest Kuchar
Minister Michał Dworczyk about mistakes in the spot
Is the Ministry of Health planning to change the spot? We asked Michał Dworczyk, the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government plenipotentiary for the national immunization program against the SARS-CoV-2 virus [14].
“I’m not a doctor, so I don’t want to comment on medical procedures,” he replied. – But one thing is certain. Any activity aimed at improving, popularizing vaccinations and increasing the number of people who want to be vaccinated is beneficial, because the only way out of the pandemic is a well-implemented national vaccination program – added Minister Dworczyk.
