The minister replied to the medics who want to help at the border. “Refusal”

A group of nearly 40 medics is trying to enter the state of emergency to heal the people there. They have just received a reply from the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Minister Kamiński. There is no consent for them to provide medical assistance to foreigners. There is hope, however, that the mediator in this case will be … the Church.

  1. A state of emergency has been created on the Polish-Belarusian border. Journalists and outsiders are not allowed to enter it. It is also forbidden to enter medics
  2. A group of nearly 40 doctors, nurses and paramedics declared that they would treat foreigners on their own and in agreement with the border guards
  3. Only one signature is needed – Minister Kamiński. The latter, however, decided to evasively deny the medics the right to enter the zone of the state of emergency

“Mr. Minister, can we go with an ambulance to the zone of emergency to help people in need of medical assistance”

Bow. Jakub Sieczko, an anaesthesiologist, is a member of a group of medics who are unsuccessfully trying to enter the area covered by the state of emergency.

– We handle all logistics on our own, we operate in accordance with the law, we declare full cooperation with the border guard and full apoliticality. We made an official request to Minister Kamiński to let us in so that we could help these people. We just need one signature, which he won’t give us. We wrote a letter to the Primate to support us. We are waiting all the time and people die – he said in an interview with Medonet on Wednesday.

  1. The editors recommend: Refugees on the Polish-Belarusian border are dying. The doctor explains what threatens their health and life the most

Today we received information that Minister Kaminski wrote back to the letter sent to the medics. However, this is not the answer that the group was expecting.

– The letter we received does not answer the question we asked. We wrote to Minister Kamiński: “Minister, can we go with an ambulance to the emergency zone to help people who require medical assistance”? In response, the minister described the situation within the state of emergency as absolutely exemplary – says the doctor. – At the same time, he did not include any reference to our proposal. And now, if I took such a paper and showed up with it at the border guard station on the border of the zone and asked to be admitted to its territory, of course no one would agree to it. It is therefore a refusal on the part of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. We are outraged by this.

The anaesthesiologist also emphasized that even where there is a war, doctors are admitted to the endangered areas to help the injured.

– We believe that there are no humanitarian premises which should induce the minister to make such a decision. Even in the moments of the worst war crises, medics have the right to enter the area of the state of emergency. This obligation is not fulfilled by the Polish Red Cross, which is also completely incomprehensible to me. But power has an alternative. He can use it at any time. One minister’s signature is enough. And the minister in the letter he wrote to us said that he would simply not sign it.

Kamiński: officers provide appropriate medical assistance

According to Minister Kamiński’s letter, the border guards present in the zone covered by the state of emergency provide appropriate medical assistance to people who need it.

– According to media statements by Minister Pobożego, i.e. Deputy Minister Kamiński, some border guards are paramedics – comments Jakub Sieczko. – But apart from the education of people who serve in the border guard and whom I really do not envy the situation in which they find themselves now, the reports of aid organizations contradict the words of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. Every now and then we get absolutely dramatic news about people in very bad health who are in the zone of emergency on the Polish side. Often times, contact with them is cut off. It is not known what is happening to them. This is also shown by the example of a 16-year-old from Iraq, whose body was found on the Belarusian side, and the Salvation Foundation stated that he had previously been on the Polish side.

Let us remind you that on Tuesday TvoiLokony journalists found out about the death of a 16-year-old boy. The young Iraqi was supposed to vomit blood while on the Polish side. Later, his body was discovered on the border territory of Belarus. As Jakub Sieczko commented for MedTvoiLokona, vomiting blood could indicate gastrointestinal bleeding, and this requires medical intervention.

– Every, I repeat, every patient who vomits blood goes to the HED, most often with the information that we are transporting such a person and you need to prepare for quick actions The doctor said.

The Primate of Poland replies to the letter: “Their death should alert our consciences”

The “Medycy na Granicy” group was also looking for help from the Primate of Poland, Wojciech Polak. The letter was answered, which suggests that we are dealing with a vote of support for the initiative.

«I am deeply moved by the deaths of some of them. Unfortunately, they didn’t get any help. Their deaths should alert our consciences, make us reflect on the fidelity to the Gospel and cause concrete actions that will prevent further tragedies ”, writes the primate, which we learn from the official announcement of the group.

Therefore, the medics are going to ask the Primate to become a mediator. “Many times in the history of Poland, the Church has mediated between the government and society”, adds Jakub Sieczko.

– As medics, we feel morally obligated to help people whose health and life are at risk. The origin, religion or nationality of the person we help do not matter to us. According to our information, people found in the forest suffer from dehydration, hypothermia, hunger, and infections. Many of them are children and pregnant women. We can help them and we want to do it – explains the motivations of the group, Jakub Sieczko. – We agree with the Primate that refugees should never be the object of a political fight. We are grateful to the Primate for his support and we will send an official request for him to mediate between the government and our group. We want to use our knowledge and competence to prevent further tragedies and we ask for permission to do so.
