Danish police have summoned famed filmmaker Lars von Trier for questioning in connection with his declaration of sympathy for Hitler.
The French prosecutor’s office is investigating statements made by a celebrity during a press conference at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Law enforcement officials are trying to find out whether von Trier has violated the country’s law prohibiting the praise of war crimes with his scandalous statement.
Let’s remind that, presenting his new work entitled “Melancholy” in Cannes, Lars von Trier inadvertently declared that he considers himself a bit of a Nazi and sympathizes with Hitler. He later told reporters that he was misunderstood and that it was just a joke. Nevertheless, the director was recognized as persona non grata at the film festival.
