History of the origin of the name Sultan
The name Sultan comes from the Aramaic word šulṭānā, which was widely used in Arabic to mean “power.” For a long time, “sultan” meant power in general, and in the Koran this word is used in precisely this sense. However, after three centuries the word acquires a second meaning: “secular powerful ruler.” The Sultan was not an imam or other religious representative of the authorities; it was believed that his power came from God, but he himself was not a minister of worship. Now this name is translated both as “power” and as “ruler”, but the second meaning dominates. The name Sultan is popular, it is very common in the Islamic world and can be part of compound names, including female ones. It is less common in Europe, although there is a cognate name Zoltan in Hungary and Romania. It is expected that the owner of the name will have power over people, live in prosperity and honor. This is the name given not only to older boys, but also to any of the newborn babies. By giving such a name to a child, parents emphasize his special status in the family, which is not related to age.
Meaning and characteristics of the name Sultan
Such a powerful and sonorous name as Sultan cannot but leave an imprint on the personality of its owner. As a child, Sultan is capricious, often stubborn, but brave and very smart. He knows how to look at a situation on a grand scale, surprising parents with his ability to analyze the world around him and find people’s motivations. Leadership is very important for the Sultan, but he does not like to rule alone – he certainly needs a retinue.
Sultan makes an excellent boss, although he loves to master a complex system of deputies, and this often fails him, since he trusts them too much.
The Sultan is distinguished by courage, but by no means recklessness. He does not tend to rush headlong into dubious adventures; he is a good strategist and prefers to calculate the chances of success in advance. It makes sense to turn to the Sultan for advice, but he himself rarely asks for help, as he is confident in his intuition.
He is ready to enter into conflict with his boss, but only if he understands that he is strong enough to win. The Sultan is noble, he will not take revenge on the defeated enemy, but he also does not feel any special pity for him.
The Sultan loves his wife and children, he is not too jealous, although he himself can give reasons for jealousy. Comfort in the home, stability, and a friendly environment are very important to him. He wants to return to a calm home, where he is loved and expected. The Sultan loves his children very much, but does not overestimate their abilities, knows how to soberly assess the prospects of each and does not expect miracles from them. But the Sultan’s wise support, ability to guide and inspire, as well as strong fatherly love help them reach great heights.
The Sultan does not like criticism, for him it sounds offensive, even realizing that he is wrong, he is not ready to admit mistakes. With truly royal stubbornness, he will defend his point of view, even if he himself no longer agrees with it. Therefore, it is better to simply give the Sultan the information, and he will draw the right conclusions himself.
Usually the Sultan is naturally endowed with good health and does not trust medicine at all.
