Origin of the name Ratmir

Despite the peculiar oriental motif and melodic pronunciation that can be seen in the name Ratmir, it has Slavic roots. After the appearance of Pushkin’s work A.S. “Ruslan and Lyudmila” the name has become well-known. But don’t think that this is the first time this name has been given to a fictional character. In the 18th century, there was a real historical figure – a Novgorod hero, who was an ally of Alexander Nevsky. Such information became available from the contents of the chronicle about the life of the hero of the Battle of the Neva. Thus, the hero Ratmir counted among the six main heroes of a historically significant event. Only, according to some information, he fell in battle, and from other sources it is known about his further service with his brother Nevsky – Yaroslav Yaroslavovich. Although it is possible that several heroes were owners of this name at once. The hero was revered – he was a symbol of the greatness of the Novgorodians. This determined the fact that his sword was kept for a long time and passed on from one generation to another.

The bearer of the name does not celebrate the name day, since this name is not in the church calendars.
