History of the origin of the name Nurlan
The male name Nurlan is of Turkic origin and is most often called this name for boys in Kazakhstan. There is a version according to which this name is the result of the fusion of two roots: the Turkic “nur”, which translates as “light” or “radiance” and the Arabic “lan”, meaning “lion”. In this case, the name can be interpreted as “brilliant and magnificent lion.” However, this beautiful version of the origin of the name finds few supporters among philologists, who believe that “lan” is an affix and denotes comparison and similarity (in this case with radiance). Thus, it is most likely that this sonorous and beautiful name means “shining, like radiance.” There is also a much less popular female equivalent of this name – Nurlana. In Kazakhstan, the respectful form of address Nurike is used.
By naming a boy Nurlon, parents expect him to be lucky enough to be attractive, achieve great success in life and become famous.
