Origin of the name Medina

“Medina” in modern Arabic is translated as “city”; this is also the name of the main, ancient part of the cities in North Africa and the Maghreb countries. It is also the name of the second most important city for Muslims after Mecca. The city of Medina was called Yathrib before the spread of Islam, but changed its name to “City of the Prophet” or “Brilliant City” after it became a place of pilgrimage for millions of Muslims. The female name Medina is inextricably linked with the Muslim shrine, although it is translated into Russian by the simple word “city”, but rather means “holy city” or “city of the prophet”. Interestingly, this name is also popular in Western Europe, where it is not associated with the Muslim tradition, but is used because of its sonority and beauty. There is a version that the European version of this name came from the Old English male name Maden, which can be translated as “lucky”. In Russia and the former Soviet republics, a distorted version of “Madina” is widely used.

Meaning and characteristics of the name Medina

Medina is focused on her inner state; in childhood she is often serious and thoughtful. Although Medina is not stupid, sometimes it happens that she is a rather mediocre student, since she does not see the point in either grades or the knowledge she receives at school. At the same time, she never gets bored in class; she knows how to withdraw into herself, maintaining a focused and attentive expression on her face.

She is quite diligent at work, but rarely works with passion; convincing her to stay overtime or help her colleagues can be very difficult.

Medina is beautiful, but she often lacks inner sparkle, but if she is passionate about work, study, or deeply in love, she becomes completely irresistible.

She rarely starts new relationships, sticks to old connections, it is difficult to establish superficial friendly relationships with her, she prefers to have several loyal friends, for whom she is ready to move mountains if necessary.

In love, Medina is careful; she expects long-term knightly courtship, devotion and old-fashioned gallantry from her partner. There is no point in starting a siege of this fortress if there are no plans for a long-term relationship, she does not tolerate frivolity and expects the same from her beloved. But she will reward a hundredfold the one who spared no time in courtship; in marriage she is constant and very responsible.

Medina loves children very much; she likes it when the house is noisy and fun. Although she herself is not very emotional, the joy of others gives her pleasure. She sometimes overindulges her own children, takes great care of her, and finds it difficult to accept their growing up and independence. Very often, Medina has difficult relationships with her daughters-in-law, although she is usually friends with her own mother-in-law.

She doesn’t like to move and change jobs; meeting new people tires her and forces her out of her focused state.

Medina loves money, she likes to earn a lot, but she doesn’t know how to spend what she has accumulated, so she often becomes tight-fisted and even greedy. A solid bank account is much more important to her than a beautiful house or a luxury car.
