History of the origin of the name Klim
The name Klim was first mentioned in birch bark documents from Novgorod. In the Old Russian language it began to sound exactly like this. Klim is a truncated form of Clement with an emphasis on i. Clement is an ancient Roman name. It translates as meek, calm, peace-loving.
In Rome, not far from the Colosseum, the Church (Basilica) of St. Clement stands modestly. It houses the relics of Pope Clement I, which believers from all over the world come to venerate. Saint Clement was beheaded on the territory of modern Sevastopol (at that time – Inkerman quarries) in 98 AD. He was an ardent supporter of Christianity and paid dearly for it.
In the twentieth century, many Russian (and not only) people had two “loud” names Klim on their lips: Klim Voroshilov – participant in the Civil War, revolutionary, People’s Commissar of Defense of the USSR; Klim Samgin is the hero of Maxim Gorky’s novel “The Life of Klim Samgin.” Voroshilov left a bright but controversial mark on Russian history, Samgin – on Russian literature.
