History of the origin of the name Elisha
The beautiful, soft male name Elisha has several versions of its origin. In the Hebrew language there was a name Elisha, information about which can be found in the Old Testament. Elisha was a disciple of the prophet Elijah, whom the latter appointed as his successor just before his ascension to heaven. The prophet with the same name, whose pronunciation was slightly changed in the Muslim way (al-Yasa or Al-Yasa), was also known in Islam. There is a third version – linguists claim that the birthplace of this name is Ancient Greece. According to this version, the name Elisha is considered one of the variants of the name of the navigator Odysseus, known from myths. In turn, the name Odysseus comes from another male name – Odusseus. Translated into Latin, the name Odysseus sounds like Ulysses (Ulysses, Ulysses, Ulisses). This was the name of the cunning king of the island of Ithaca, who was not only a famous traveler, but also an active participant in the Trojan War, the leader of the Achaeans.
