In Orthodoxy, Augusta has two patron saints – the martyr Augusta of Rome and the holy empress Augusta. The Holy Empress Augusta was beheaded publicly for believing in Christ. She converted to Christianity after seeing God’s grace on the face of the martyr Catherine at the time of painful torture, who was sentenced to execution. Despite the fact that she was the wife of Emperor Maximian, she was brutally tortured and killed along with the rest of the condemned Christians.
