History of the origin of the name Altair

In addition to its Arabic roots, the name Altair is associated with Greco-Latin culture, where it means “bird.”

It is quite difficult to understand exactly the origin of the name. Altair is of Arabic origin, but is rarely used by Arabs. The first half of the name is similar to English particles, and “tair” translates as “bird.” Most likely, the name Altair belongs to the pagan pre-Islamic tradition, because it is difficult to imagine a Muslim believer who would decide to name his son a bird. In Abrahamic religions it is not customary to give divine significance to birds, or to other animals in general.
