Origin of the name Abraham

The name Abram first began to appear in the Biblical scriptures. It was the name given to the progenitor of the entire Jewish people and in translation the word was interpreted as “exalted father.” God subsequently advised the name to be changed to Abraham, which was interpreted as “father of nations.” The name change is explained by the fact that his sons were the first representatives of several Arab tribes. Thus, Abraham became the progenitor of several nations. For the same reason, in the Islamic religion the name Abraham is embodied in another identical form – Ibrahim. His name is mentioned in one of the surahs of the Muslim holy book, the Koran. Abraham and the Catholics did not leave without his participation. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the name appears in the articles on faith.

Meaning and characteristics of the name Abraham

The name given to a boy at birth will give him a contradictory character. On the one hand, Abraham will be subject to courage, determination and fortitude. On the other hand, they are characterized by excessive kindness and complaisance. In some situations, Abraham will go headlong towards his goal, in others he will be able to retreat, capitulate to a stronger opponent or difficult circumstances.

During childhood and adolescence, Avramchik will be subject to frequent mood swings. His state of mind will balance from one extreme to the other, leading those around him to bewilderment.

As Abraham matured, he learned to cope with his inner turmoil as much as possible. Masking behind external detachment and indifference, he may have talents in various areas, ranging from extraordinary creative abilities to a penchant for science. Any type of activity that a representative of the stronger sex with a biblical name chooses will ultimately submit to him.

It is very difficult for those around him to guess in what situations Abraham might attack or retreat, so, just in case, they will try to behave with him carefully. Abraham himself has a hard time with himself, since he is a hostage to his constant internal conflict. Another distinctive feature is an excellent sense of humor, which can smooth out many of the rough edges caused by the inconstancy of character.
