The dwelling, built in the late 40s, was full of surprises. And what kind!
35-year-old man, wife, house, mortgage. It seems like a standard story. She was like that – until the guy started repairs. There was no extra money, so I decided to do everything with my own hands. Moreover, especially difficult work was not foreseen: the housing was in decent condition, I just wanted to arrange it for myself. The renovation on the first and second floors was quite standard: wallpaper, painting, floors. But the basement … There was all the most interesting.
“First, I cleaned the walls,” the man said on his social media page. – Under a layer of old plaster, there were some strange drawings scratched on the bricks. I decided that this was nothing special, and began to disassemble the ceilings. “
The ceiling was incredibly dusty. It seems that in all the years that have passed since the construction – and the house was erected in the 40s, no one has bothered to overlap.
“The dust layer was at least a centimeter,” the homeowner continues. – I took off all the boards and then came across some kind of metal box. It looks like he lay there for more than a dozen years, all overgrown with dust. “
Cool! Treasure! Jokes aside, but it was very curious. The box was rather light, hardly any gold bars. Maybe collectible cards? They are also worth their weight in gold among connoisseurs.
“I called my wife and we opened the box together,” the man writes. “There was something inside wrapped in wax paper.”
An old newspaper, dated March 1951, was under a layer of paper. Almost 70 years old! Great, but not a treasure.
But there were three more packages inside. And they had all the fun in them – bundles of twenty-dollar bills in one, 50-dollar bills in the other, and hundredths in the third. It was then that the couple simply lost their speech. They could not even imagine that a metal dusty box is fraught with a real treasure. There were more questions than answers: can you keep the money for yourself? How much are the rarest banknotes now? All this still had to be discussed with a lawyer.
A week later, the man returned to the basement and continued the renovation. And … I found another similar box. It was heavier than the first, and there was clearly money inside – banknotes were visible through a hole in the wall.
“I could hardly wait for my wife from work to open the drawer with her,” the guy laughs.
And by her return he had finished dismantling the ceiling at Stakhanov’s pace: what if there is another box somewhere inside? But no, there were only two. Moreover, the second was filled with bills to the eyeballs. In total, there were 45 thousand dollars in both boxes.
“This money will be used to pay the mortgage,” says the lucky man. “We sold the rare bills and took the rest to the bank.”
