Italy rightfully occupies one of the most honorable places on the tourist map of the world. The beauties of Rome and Venice, Milan and Naples attract tourists from all over the world. However, Florence remains a kind of Italian gem.
It is simply inconceivable how one city could accommodate and preserve for posterity all that was created by the greatest Italian artists and sculptors over the centuries.
In a short period of time, you will hardly be able to see all the sights of Florence. But there are several true masterpieces that are simply impossible to pass by!
What to See in Florence
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore
All tourist guides unanimously call this cathedral the main attraction of Florence. Its ancient red-brown dome, visible from any point of the city limits, is striking in its beauty and grandeur.
Many temple complexes have been erected in the city. The symbol of Florence is the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It surpasses in size not only other structures, but also other tallest buildings.

The multicolored marble façade with unique sculptural compositions can delight even the most desperate skeptic. The interior design is not inferior to the external appearance. The most famous artists of that time worked on it, making the ceiling and walls real works of art.
Giotto’s bell tower
Not far from the cathedral described above, there is another creation of Florentine architecture – Giotto’s bell tower. The end of its construction dates back to the XIV century, but even today it never ceases to amaze with a combination of grandeur and grace.
The bell tower, or Giotto’s campanile, as it is also commonly called, is a real monument of architectural art.
Its facades, decorated with three types of marble, have retained the brightness of the red-white-green palette to this day. 414 steps lead to the top of the structure, overcoming which, from a height of 85 m, you can see all of Florence at a glance and enjoy its stunning landscapes.
Signoria Square
Another tourist attraction in Florence is the Piazza della Signoria. It includes a whole list of historical and cultural monuments. Here are the famous sculpture “David” by Michelangelo, and the statue of “Judith” by Donatello, and the Neptune fountain, and the Palazzo Vecchio.
However, the square is not only monuments of art, it itself bears the stamp of history. During the Florentine era, it was a place of concentration of power.
Severity and grandeur are still inherent in her. She also remembers the sad events – the fires of the Holy Inquisition blazed here and public executions were carried out. Now there is no trace of those tragic events of the past.
