The alternating magnetic field effectively heals pain, speeds up wound healing and improves the appearance of scars, and is even helpful in the treatment of depression. The creator of a therapeutic method that has already gained recognition is prof. Aleksander Sieroń from the Medical University of Silesia.
Together with two other scientists – prof. Feliks Jaroszyk and prof. Janusz Paluszak from the Medical University of Poznań – he developed a device for magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation – depending on the indications, various types of induction are used. The device generates a low-frequency alternating magnetic field, which has an extremely beneficial effect on the patient’s body.
In led by prof. Sieronia Department of Internal Diseases, Angiology and Physical Medicine – the only one with such a profile in Europe, operating at the Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Bytom – the therapy has already been used in approx. 12 thousand. sick.
The device has a tested and proven effectiveness in the treatment of pain – according to research, it is as high as 92 percent. Thanks to the therapy, the secretion of beta-endorphs increases in the patient’s body – the so-called Happiness hormones, oxygenation and blood supply to tissues are also improved.
The scientist emphasizes that in a large group of patients it is impossible to cure the causes of pain. This applies, for example, to patients with degenerative changes in bones or joints or suffering from postoperative adhesions. Some patients tend to do so, and subsequent operations to remove adhesions give more. Such a sick person suffers a lot – explained prof. Sieroń.
The use of an alternating magnetic field allows for about 4 weeks to reduce the pain, in addition, the patient does not have to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during this time, which destroy the stomach and liver.
The use of variable magnetic fields, thanks to better oxygenation and blood supply to the tissues, also gives excellent acceleration of healing, both in hard and soft tissues. The use of therapy accelerates the healing of wounds and fractures, and also improves the appearance of scars.
The last application of an alternating magnetic field, already confirmed by research, is drug-resistant depression. The publication of prof. Sieronia and a team of Polish psychiatrists on this subject recently appeared in the prestigious American journal Journal of Affective Disorders. In drug-resistant depression there is a very positive effect of the use of fields, they clearly reduce the suffering of patients, becoming a serious alternative to electroconvulsive therapy. The fields increase the level of beta-endorphins as well as other hormones – emphasized prof. Sieroń.
The magnetotherapy device developed by Polish scientists turned out to be a great export hit, it is used in hospitals, doctor’s offices and rehabilitation centers almost all over the world.
