The Lower Silesian National Health Fund will give more money for palliative care and hospices

The Lower Silesian branch of the National Health Fund received an additional PLN 45,9 million from the general reserve of the National Health Fund. The vast majority of the money – PLN 34,5 million – will go to hospitals as part of the settlement of unlimited services. PLN 4 million will go to palliative and hospice care.

As emphasized in an interview with PAP on Tuesday, the spokesman of the Lower Silesian branch of the National Health Fund, Joanna Mieraelńska, the decision to allocate larger sums for palliative and hospice care results from the difficult situation in this segment of medical services.

“We wanted to subsidize also palliative and hospice care, which needs it very much, which is why PLN 4 million was planned for this purpose,” she said.

Over PLN 5,5 million was also allocated to nursing benefits and long-term medical care services. PLN 2 million is planned for insulin pumps and contracts related to dialysis of patients.

The President of the National Health Fund, Agnieszka Pachciarz, has decided to change the financial plan for this year and mobilize additional funds for health services. It is over PLN 640 million from the Fund’s general reserve.

The money from the NHF reserve was divided based on an algorithm, according to the number of pediatric patients and the number of highly specialized services (worth over PLN 15 for a medical procedure).

The decision is to enable provincial branches of the fund to settle unlimited and life-saving benefits. Branch directors decide on the allocation of funds for particular types of benefits. The ministries of health and finance have agreed to use the reserve.

The reserve is 1 percent. the sum at the disposal of the National Health Fund in a given year. The fund uses this reserve every year. (PAP)
