😉 Greetings to my dear readers! Today I want to talk about bright feelings. About love. For example, this love story of Pushkin and Goncharova.
The poet, who sang love in poetry, proved with his life and death that for this high feeling there are no concepts like “calculation”, “prudence”! He loved and was loved, he defended the honor of his beloved wife not in words – the duel with Dantes ended tragically …
Pushkin and Natalia Goncharova
Natalya Nikolaevna Goncharova was one of the first beauties in Moscow. This is evidenced by both all biographical materials and portraits painted by the hand of contemporary artists.
Did Alexander Sergeevich fall in love with her only for her appearance? Of course not! There were many beauties – the poet was attracted by the poetic beauty of Natalya Nikolaevna: she stood out among others for her special spirituality.
Natalya Nikolaevna
She was 16 years old when he saw her for the first time at one of the Moscow balls. Pushkin is almost 2 times older – he is 30 years old. His feelings are serious. Soon he wooed Natalya Nikolaevna and was refused! But not from the bride herself, but from her family.
Alexander Sergeevich was politely refused, referring to the bride’s youth. In fact, Natalya Nikolaevna’s mother wanted a better game for her! However, Pushkin did not back down – a year later he again wooed Natalya Nikolaevna and this time his proposal was accepted.
The calculating and pragmatic mother of Natalya Nikolaevna understood: there might not be a better game for her daughter! First, Pushkin is famous. Secondly, he takes her daughter without a dowry!
Under the terms of the wedding arrangement, the wedding and the bride’s dowry were all done at the expense of the groom. The material affairs of the Goncharov family were very unimportant. Perhaps that is why over the past year there have been no other candidates for the hand and heart of the young beauty. (If interested, the height of the groom is 166,7 cm, the height of the bride is 173 cm).
In May 1830, the engagement of the future spouses took place, but the wedding itself took place only 8 months later. They were married on March 2, 1831 in the Moscow church “Big Ascension” at the Nikitsky Gate.
During the wedding, the poet’s ring falls, rolls on the carpet. He bends down to pick it up. The candle goes out, and the cross and the Gospel fall from the analogion. How many signs! But the choice has already been made …
Pushkin loved his wife very much. The letters he wrote at parting are imbued with special warmth and tenderness, respect for his wife. He was proud of her beauty and trusted her completely.
George Charles Dantes
The background of the duel with Dantes has not been fully disclosed. Was it only the Frenchman himself who was to blame for paying too much attention to a married woman at the balls? Or it is unknown whether third parties, the poet’s ill-wishers, played a role in this.
The following is known for certain: Pushkin challenged Dantes to a duel twice. The first time Dantes found an excuse for his excessive attention to Mrs. Pushkina: he wooed her sister Catherine.
Having become a “relative” of Goncharova, Dantes was still overly familiar. At balls, he often found himself near Natalya Nikolaevna. How did Natalya Nikolaevna react to this? Compliments were probably pleasant to her, but nothing more.
It is known that she had no secrets from her husband. She told him frankly about all this, realizing that their love would never be defiled by suspicion.
The tragedy would not have happened if in one morning Pushkin had not received several letters of an insulting nature. All of them were written with one hand and passed on through the poet’s friends. Their content remained unknown, but there was clearly something in them that tarnished the name of his wife and himself. On the same day, the poet challenged Dantes to a duel.
The personal life of a bright, talented person always attracts close public attention. Many admire and rejoice at his success. Others are looking for something to tarnish a famous name.
Without gossip, envy, intrigue, the union of Pushkin and Goncharova would be long and happy.
After the tragic death of her husband, his widow, who was only 24 years old, was left with four young children. In seven years, Natalya Nikolaevna will marry General Lanskoy and give birth to three daughters.
She will do everything as the dying Pushkin ordered her. He asked her to leave the city, to wear two years of mourning, and after … afterwards to marry a decent man. He loved his wife so much that even being on his deathbed, he could not help thinking about her happiness …
Peter Petrovich Lanskaya
Pyotr Petrovich Lanskoy (1799-1877) – Russian general from the cavalry, since 1844 he was married to the widow of A.S. Pushkin. In a marriage with Natalya Nikolaevna, he had three daughters. Lanskoy survived his wife by 14 years. He was buried in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in the same grave with his wife.
