The lines to the doctors are getting longer

The Watch Health Care Foundation report shows that the queues to doctors have been systematically increasing since 2011. The record waiting time for a specialist treatment is 126 months!

The Watch Health Care Foundation was established in 2010 and since then it has been systematically monitoring the waiting time for guaranteed health services in Poland. The data is not optimistic. The lines have been systematically increasing for the last four years. The data from the latest report covering the months of June and July are downright intimidating.

The longest waiting for services in the field of orthopedics and traumatology. The average time from visiting a doctor to performing the procedure is 17,1 months, i.e. about one and a half years. Dentistry is in second place – 9 months. You have to wait over 5 months for services in the field of neurosurgery and ophthalmology. When it comes to specific specializations, we will wait the longest for an appointment with an orthodontist, endocrinologist and neurosurgeon.

Thanks to the oncology package, the other extreme includes radiotherapy and oncological surgery, where the waiting time is shorter than a month. It is similar with palliative medicine. You also don’t have to wait long to see a doctor who specializes in lung diseases.

The report also includes data that allows you to compare the fields in which queues have been extended since the last verification, which took place at the turn of February and March this year. The greatest extension occurred in neurosurgery, by as much as 2,12 months. Immediately followed by dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. However, shortenings occurred in otolaryngology, vascular surgery and medical rehabilitation.

However, it should be remembered that the given values are average. There are places where the lines are absurdly long. Magdalena Ciupak-Zarzycka from the WHC Foundation in an interview with “Gazeta Prawna” said: “In one of the institutions in Gliwice, knee arthroplasty is scheduled for 2026. Waiting time 126 months”.
