– We are to build a Polish plasma factory, because we are constantly dependent on other countries. In such cases as a pandemic, we could expect a break in the supply chain, and this threatens the national security of patients who require blood products on a daily basis – he said in the “Onet Rano” program. Dr. Radosław Sierpiński, the prime minister’s plenipotentiary for the development of the biotechnology sector and Poland’s independence in the field of blood products.
— Polish plasma is not fractionated in Poland, which means that drugs are not produced from it in our country. It is collected in Poland, and then goes abroad, there it is converted into plasma-derived drugs (used, for example, in patients with immunodeficiency), and then nicely packed, it returns to our country – explained the expert.
According to Sierpiński, such a situation poses a threat to national security, but it also has economic effects: – Poland loses PLN 100 million on this every year.
