Looking for a device to squeeze my “healthy” fruit juices in the morning (yes I have a complicated alarm clock!) I decided to go in search of a high-end model. Juice extractor, blender or centrifuge, here the first concern arises.
If you’re like me and focus on capacity and performance above all else over design, price and gimmicky features, then your budget the 2nd generation HG vertical juice extractor from Hurom might just appeal to you.
The juice machine at a glance
In a hurry and no time to read the rest of our article? No problem, we have prepared a short summary of its technical characteristics with its current price.
The 2nd generation HG Hurom vertical extractor
Preserving as much as possible the nutritional qualities of food thanks to a slow speed of rotation, the juice extractor is also able to separate the pulp from the juice.
Thanks to its technology, the juice extractor does not destroy the structure of fruits and vegetables which oxidize less quickly. By gently grinding the food, the Huron HG model is one of the top models in the vertical extractor category.
A solid and imposing model!
As I am more performance oriented the Hurom HG indeed seems to stand out from the crowd thanks to an extremely slow rotation ideally retaining the vitamins and all the essential nutrients of fruits and vegetables.
High-end device with an imposing and robust appearance, it is however to be forgotten for those who want a compact, light and inexpensive model. Not far from 6kg with its accessories the extractor still measures 41,8 cm high, 22,4 cm wide and 16 cm long. If you want to buy a compact extractor, immediately forget about this HG Hurom!
A significant price
I also want to say that the sheer price of the model reserves it for those on a solid budget who are looking for top of the line above all. With a power of 150 watts for a rotation speed of 43 revolutions per minute, the Hurom model is equipped with a single double helix screw and is delivered with several accessories (various sieves, containers and other supports).
The capacity of the model will also allow you to extract up to 450ml of juice at one time.

Juice extraction and many other functions
To see the look of the extractors I was really not convinced that a model was going to be enthroned on my worktop. More like my butcher’s minced meat grinder a classic extractor is really hard to see!
Well, think again, recent progress made by manufacturers has made it possible to obtain models that are rather aesthetic and visually pleasing.
This is particularly the case with vertical extractors which resemble centrifuges in every way. This is also the case with this latest generation Hurom HG available in stainless steel, red or chocolate color.
Everyone has their own style and tastes and colors cannot be discussed, but I must say that I appreciate it. For anyone interested in technical details the Hurom HG is equipped with a double helix worm loaded with pressing force.
The second generation model according to the manufacturer is more efficient and benefits from better pressing. Yeah, more marketing argument than anything else because in reality it’s the speed of rotation that counts.
The slowest rotation speed on the market
And here on the other hand it is the great strength of the Hurom HG which has the slowest rotation on the market. with 43 revolutions per minute.
As you have already understood, the whole advantage of owning a juice extractor is that it retains all the nutrients and vitamins in the food. Thanks to an extremely slow speed, the model ensures optimal extraction.
The device is not only used to make fruit juices but you can also use it to make vegetable, leaf or herb juices (yes!), Nectars and other mixtures thanks to the sieves supplied with . A sieve with small holes allows smooth juices and a large-hole sieve allows smoother juices.
Gazpachos, citrus juices and even seaweed to take advantage of trace elements (watch out for taste), coulis and jellies or soups, the extractor is used to make different kinds of juice mixing textures and aromas.
Be careful, however, not to insert hot food to avoid damaging the appliance.
Easy maintenance
Equipped with a pulp pitcher, a collecting container, a pusher and cleaning brushes, the Hurom HG 2nd generation also has a lever on the front to facilitate cleaning.
Like the majority of juice machines the marks indicate “self-cleaning” but like all machines their maintenance requires a little elbow grease to remove the pulp.
However, the model is equipped with a juice cap making it easier to clean between two operations so as not to have to constantly disassemble the device to clean it completely. It suffices to pour water into the juice container via the feed pipe and then turn the device.
Here too, be careful not to put the items in the dishwasher during your maintenance, otherwise your machine could be damaged!
A pulp control lever is also fitted to the machine, which is convenient for maintenance. By inserting the sieve with large holes you can also use the control lever to prepare smoothies for example.
A sober and refined design
With 3 colors: stainless steel, red or chocolate, everyone can make their choice according to their aesthetic tastes.
Rather design and elegant and with a robust appearance, the HG from Hurom remains imposing. As I indicated above the model resembles in all respects a centrifuge with its vertical position rather than horizontal.
The machine then keeps a look more multifunction robot or large blender, which remains rather attractive in a kitchen or on a worktop next to other appliances.
The advantage is that with almost 6kg of weight the device does not risk tipping or falling inadvertently. Stability is indeed often the fault of devices “gadgets” featherweight but which tip the first use!
Advantages and disadvantages of the Hurom 2nd generation extractor

- Slow rotation speed

What do users think?
Before my purchase and given the price of the extractor, I obviously wanted to collect as many opinions as possible from users. Among the advantages that come up most often, record rotation speed is the major asset and remains the one that is most often cited in reviews.
This is indeed the slowest on the market and by far with 43 revolutions per minute against 60 or even 80 for the competition. This is then the guarantee of preserving as much as possible all the nutritional qualities of the food.
Despite the high price, even at the top of the range, the robustness and the pressing efficiency of the machine are appreciated by users. Some appreciate its sleek design, but the majority praise the performance of the device.
The second generation of devices seems to be more efficient than the previous one in terms of pressing and another notable advantage, the 150 watt power of the extractor.
It is one of the least energy-intensive on the market, which again appeals to buyers. Apart from its high price which I understand may put off more than one, there are not really any major faults apart from the parts warranty of only 2 years at some dealers.

Possible alternatives
In the high-end or even very high-end sector, the Hurom HG does not really suffer from the competition. With a rotation speed almost half as high as other extractors, the choice is quickly made. However, 2 vertical juice extractors of the same size stand out from the crowd by their price: the BioChef Synergy and the Kuvings B9000.
Le BioChef Synergy
The BioChef Synergy is almost 3 times cheaper than the HG Hurom and as much to say it right away this is its unique advantage. Turning at 67 revolutions per minute which remains very correct in view of its price and in its category, the device has the advantage of being particularly versatile. It is thus possible to make smoothies, fruit and vegetable juices and other sorbets.

Le Kuvings B9000
The Kuvings B9000 is priced lower than the HG but still remains in a high range. Its main advantage is its wide 7,5cm feed neck allowing whole fruits to be inserted for a significant time saving. (read the full review)

Our conclusion
In the high-end vertical juice extractor sector, the 2nd generation HG Hurom has the slowest rotation speed on the market with 43rpm for a power of 150w.
With a significant weight and size, the device is equipped with a double helix system offering optimum performance and high pressing force. The pulp regulation lever remains practical in order to adjust the density of the juices but also to facilitate cleaning of the device.
Only downside the high price of HG Hurom reserves it for a certain elite or fans of vegetable and fruit juices for intensive use.
