The hospital in Sanok suspended admissions due to the nurses’ hunger strike

The district hospital in Sanok decided to suspend the planned admissions of patients. The reason is the nurses’ hunger strike. There are 20 women protesting there. They demand, inter alia, raises.

The authorities of the hospital in Sanok decided to suspend the planned admissions of patients due to the protest of nurses. The trade union of Nurses and Midwives has been in a collective dispute with the management of the hospital for several years. Women demand the fulfillment of seven demands. The main one is the salary increase by PLN 500. Nurses are also fighting to take into account the annual salary indexation, salary supplements for nurses improving their professional qualifications, and the hospital to cover the costs of training and courses. The list of postulates also included the restoration of the full social fund, a ban on single-person on-call duty and the cessation of additional work that does not fall within the scope of duties.

All the nurses working in the Sanok hospital expressed their willingness to participate in the rotational hunger protest. There are over 350 of them. “The worst thing is that we are not taken seriously”, complains Małgorzata Sawicka, head of the trade union of nurses and midwives in the Sanok hospital.

The decision to initiate a protest was made when the nurses’ representatives were not allowed to vote during the last session of the district council before the elections. Roman Konieczny, the starost of Sanok, claims that raising the salary by PLN 500 is impossible and announces the will to negotiate.
