Today, the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Michał Dworczyk, announced the establishment of a hospital for patients suffering from COVID-19 at the National Stadium. It will be a temporary hospital with 500 beds, including 50 ICUs, with the possibility of extending it by 500 more. The minister, who is responsible for coordinating the activities related to his appointment, explained in Radio Zet that it would be a temporary hospital, not a field hospital. And similar facilities are to be established in several more provinces.

The field hospital is mobile and it is “developed” by the military
A field hospital is also a type of temporary hospital, however it is usually intended to treat victims of warfare, catastrophes and natural disasters. and according to military terminology, it is “developed” outside the buildings of a permanent hospital.
During the XNUMXth and most of the XNUMXth century, field hospitals were mainly housed in tents. Surely everyone who watched the famous American series “MASH” remembers what such a hospital of the US Army, created during the Korean War, looked like. Now tents have replaced containers, and in peacetime field hospitals are being built in the vicinity of communication junctions.
The Polish Armed Forces have a military field hospital – the Military Field Hospital (1st WszP) – with a surgical and internal medicine profile. The hospital is mobile. Currently, it is located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Bydgoszcz, but it was developed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The hospital is equipped with mobile equipment and specialized medical containers. The containers include, among others: a preoperative room, an operating room, an intensive care room, a laboratory, an X-ray machine and a pharmacy. The hospital is also equipped with modern surgical, anesthetic, emergency and diagnostic equipment. It can operate in any climatic conditions and meets all NATO standards.
While explaining in Radio Zet the difference between a temporary hospital and a field hospital, Minister Dworczyk said that the latter “are associated with military installations, either container or tents”. Meanwhile, what he is organizing: “it is a temporary hospital, built in the premises of the National Stadium, not on the slab, but in conference rooms, there are between 250 and 300 beds in one room. And actually it will be, because this work is starting now ».
The first 250 beds are expected to be ready by the end of this week, but the biggest problem will be securing qualified staff for the new hospital. Military field hospitals have such facilities, while doctors and managers from the Warsaw Ministry of Interior and Administration hospital at ul. Wołoska. Some employees are to be transferred to the new facility by the voivode. They will also be people from outside Warsaw, e.g. delegated from the fire brigade or the Territorial Defense Forces.
At the moment, the conference rooms are supplied with utilities and equipment necessary for oxygen therapy, necessary during the treatment of the severe course of COVID-19. The hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Material Reserves Agency play an essential role in these preparations.
