“Sometimes you have to sink to the very bottom to start appreciating what you have,” says a man who has overcome alcohol addiction and got out of the street. Now he works as a hairdresser and is ready to help clients cope with psychological problems as well.
A resident of British Liverpool, Martin Abbey (Martyn Abbey), who lived on the street for more than three months, managed to overcome alcohol addiction and opened his own hairdresser.
The 33-year-old Briton lost his job and lost his family because of his addiction to alcohol. The man notes that because of his problem, he «sank to the very bottom.» He spent the night in a tent on abandoned railway tracks, sometimes found shelter with friends.
Life on the street made the man think about the psychology of dependent people. “Theory can be very useful, but nothing beats experience,” says Martin Abbey. In his opinion, people addicted to alcohol and drugs often blame other people and circumstances for their problems. However, in order to change your life, you must take responsibility for it.
Men often share their problems with the hairdresser
“As soon as you realize that only you control what is happening, everything starts to change. Sometimes you have to lose everything before you start to appreciate what you have,” he assures.
The Briton turned to an organization that helps people with addictions. It turned out that one of Abby’s former clients worked there. He helped an old acquaintance «pull himself together.»
Currently, Martin Abbey has returned to the family where his son is growing up. He works as a hairdresser, pays off his debts and intends to get a psychological education.
The Briton is convinced that men often share their problems with a hairdresser. In this regard, he decided to become the world’s first hairdresser-psychologist in order to professionally advise clients.
“On my first day at work, I cut 30 or 40 people. During the opening of the barbershop on the street, there was even a line of people who wanted to get to me. It’s so great to be busy again!» Martin Abbey shared.
