The Fieta of National Tourist Interest, returns to San Pedro, to continue spreading the wine culture of the Riojana region.
The battle of wine go back to Haro, to culminate the celebrations of the factivities of San Juan and San Pedro, as they have been doing since 1965.
It was in this new century, in 2011, when a festival of national tourist interest was declared, and with this a media impact has been achieved, which leads to the first line of combat, to the region Riojana, as phalanx of the most Ink contest, ever told.
From the origins of festive devotion to San Felices de Bilibio, with its pilgrimage to the hermitage of the cave, that first spill of wine on the friendly day laborer will be reissued, which has come to our days as the Battle of Haro Wine.
What does the contest consist of?
From early in the morning, the participants, dressed in white, wearing the red scarf, a symbol of their festivities and in clear honor of the color of the wine, begin the climb to the Bilibrium Risks, on foot, in tractors with trailers or by car.
Once the summit is crowned, the launch of the fermented grape, with boots, bottles, cauldrons, “water” guns now full of wine or any other tool that can carry the liquid and allow it to be thrown at the partner.
The fighting hosts conclude the battle, all having lunch in fraternal camaraderie, camouflaged as components of the same dyed army, with the traditional products, bread, chorizo, cutlets with vine shoots or snails, etc …
To tell of the feat, the pilgrimage retreats to the town of Haro, to carry out the crowded “lap” which ends with the release of cattle in the bullring of the municipality …
The rules are 5 and very simple and the intake of wine through all the pores of the skin is guaranteed:
- The rigorous bank of clothing is mandatory as well as turning purple …

- Approved weapons are only those that can contain wine such as boots, sulfates, etc. (neither glass nor metal)
- It is mandatory to laugh and sing while the list lasts, accompanying the brass bands that enliven
- Whoever keeps any part of his clothing blank will be the preferred target of the dyed mass.
