The Godfather – Don Corleone Cocktail

A simple two-ingredient cocktail with a light herbal aroma, almond flavor and a long finish. Served as a digestif at the end of a hearty dinner. Despite its simplicity, The Godfather is included in the official list of the IBA (International Bartenders Association), which is a recognition of its unique taste.

Historical information

The Godfather cocktail appeared in 1972 before the release of the eponymous film The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola. According to the most plausible version, the mixture of Amaretto and whiskey was loved by Marlon Brando, who played the main character, the head of the mafia clan, Don Vito Corleone.

Composition and proportions:

  • whiskey – 35 ml;
  • Amaretto liqueur – 35 ml;
  • ice cubes – 100 grams.

Any medium-quality blended whiskey or bourbon is suitable for making a cocktail; it makes no sense to use expensive varieties, since the sweet liquor will drown out their taste anyway.

Recipe

1. Fill a glass (preferably old fashion) with ice.

2. Add whiskey and Amaretto.

3. Stir.

Cocktail “Godmother”

According to legend, this variety was created by a female bartender to spite men in order to equalize the rights of the sexes. It differs from the classic recipe of the “Godmother” only by replacing whiskey with vodka without aromatic additives, thanks to which the drink turned out to be a little softer.

Composition:

  • Amaretto – 35 ml;
  • vodka – 35 ml;
  • ice – 3-4 cubes.

Preparation

1. Pour vodka and almond liqueur into a glass with ice.

2. Stir well.
